Performance, what to expect?

Featured Replies

Have had the Furby for over a week now and I love the car, it feels fairly rapid, especially from 50-70 (ish).

I would have expected it to be a bit quicker when "taking on" other cars though, for example some berk in a Mazda 6 was speeding up when I went to overtake him the other day, and it pretty much matched me for speed. His car would be no more than a 2lt petrol.

Today I was behind a Insignia CDTI and he booted it, and I did the same to compare performance (only to 70 then backed off), we seemed to be fairly equal on acceleration.

Does this sound about right? Only asking because have seen a few quotes saying that the car is faster than a BMW 320d, but based on what I am experiencing I cant see this a being correct.

NB. I'm not driving round like a chavy boy racer, just getting a feel for the car still.

Ah ok then. As I said still getting used to the car.

It's totally different driving a TDI compared to a petrol, just gotta make sure I'm in the right gear at the right time lol.

C'mon saint, you know the mazda 2.0 is 150hp, if he times it right you'll struggle :giggle:

I think your problem is that you've been reading too many jackanory "I thrashed a 320d" posts. You'll need a remap at least

If your coming from a petrol to an unmapped Furby you might be changing up too late. It's a weird feeling but you have to change up and trust the torque to keep you going rather than hanging on to the very highest revs as you would in a petrol. When I first got my Furby I found it a bit gutless higher up the revs, especially over 4k, but with the remap it allows you to drive it in a more petrol like manner as the power is extended further up the revs. Remember to make sure you're on full boost when you floor it too otherwise you could get caught out by turbo lag as the other car pulls off.

I found this when I first had mine too......you'll be suprised at the performance of some of the diesels, especially newer models - out do the furb without a doubt

I dont seem to have a issue :D

Those Mazda 6's some are pretty nippy to be fair

Sounds about right.. I gave a BMW 730D a hard time but he did overtake me giving me a thumbs up and mine is standard

As many have said its about the right gear at the right time, but they do feel astmathic against certain cars, dont forget the brakes are not so good which looses your confidence

Dont forget must jap cars are rev happy with the power coming in at higher revs they have advantage

Spot on.

The vrs is a nice all rounder car, but it aint gonna out drag everything and anything. Remap or no remap, it's a bloody hatchback family car at the end of the day

Its a "warm" hatch, so it`ll not be flying ahead of even a decent modern family car. Just enjoy it being fun to drive as oppose to trying to race things. Tho if you do want to do that, splash the cash and really suprise them.

Matt

mazda mite av been an mps... :smirk:

I own a 320d as well and its no where near as quick as my VRS in a straight line. Round corners however I think I'd see that situation reversed - probably just because Ive not got used to fwd yet - the fabia just doesn't feel anywhere near as balanced on the road.

Lol I'm not trying to race things, but it's nice to know what it's capable of thats all.

I came from a Mazda 3 and tbh the Furby feels quicker, and no the 6 definately wasnt an Mps, that would have been way too much!

Best of all for me tho is the mpg, tank is lasting me 2 weeks @ £45, thats the best performance figure in my book ;)

I've come from a jap car background and never had a tdi, I feed in the power slowly but apparently thats not how you drive a tdi lol. So what I got from your reply is, boot it from the get go and change earlier e.g. ~4k rpm?

My best mate has a 52 plate 320d and we are pretty even, I have more torque however! Mine is a BLT engined vRS with around 150bhp and his 320d has 150bhp so

The newer 320d's have 163bhp and some 180bhp iirc

Most diesel cars will have the same surge in power, its just delivery of that power that's different!

So what revs do you boot it from, 2k or 3k?

2,250rpm

I couldn't keep up with a touran this morning.

I think it was just a case of being in the wrong gear, and the touran was probably the 2.0 TDI 170.

the great thing about a TDI is the tourqe if you try and keep well within the tourqe band you will fly along, but for a bit more umph a remap is the way to go.

I think that quote's come from the Wikipedia article on the Fabia, which states that it accelerates from 50 to 70mph 0.4s quicker than a BMW 330i (5.6s vs 6s), and from 20 to 40mph at the same rate as a Lotus Elise 111R (2.4s).

I have no idea how accurate those statements are (given that they include times, it might be right), as I don't have a vRS ...

I try not to worry too much about it to be honest. With the truly stupid price of diesel lately I've driven the motorway part of my journey to work for the last week with the cruise set at 56mph achieving an awesome average 75mpg over the 16 mile journey.

Il second that :) iv been cruising around everywhere with no cruise control and managing an impressive 58 mpg, love it. Cruising around in the sun, good times

I think it could be true.. but if you think about it.. It's comparing the Fabia at it's peak with other cars at their slowest.

I recon using the above technique you could make any warm hatch sound like a super trolley!

I had a Mazda 6 2.0D for a works car and I couldnt pull away from it when my furby was stock. With a remap however it does give quite a bit more grunt. I had an A5 2.7TDI up my chuff all the way through a 50mph motorway section (fitted with SPECS camera's) so there was no way I was going over that yet it was reduced to two lanes and I was overtaking the 40mph crawlers in the first lane. As soon as the speed restriction ended he moved in to the third lane and we both booted it, were bob on equal up to 110mph where I had to brake for a car in the 2nd lane.

Safe to say little man in his Audi was not happy that a small Skoda was still next to him :)
