Brodit - where to stick it?

Featured Replies

Contemplating getting a Brodit but in a bit of a dilemma as where best to site the Pro Clip. It would be used with a Tom Tom Go sat nav so it appears to be a straight choice between the two higher up positions - right air vent or centre mount on the top right hand of the Bolero. The other lower positions available appear to be too low to be sat nav friendly - unless ? Also, how easy is the Pro Clip to fit & remove without causing any trim damage?

OR - is there better system than the Brodit?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I have the pro clip for my iPhone and it is on the Centre Mount above the right corner of the MFD3

You can just make it out in that.

As long as you don't use the Sticky pad that comes with it then it's a piece of pi55 to do and you can fit/remove it in about 10 secs

That looks the best position with their centre mount. I can see from your picture the bottom of the clamp fits into the Bolero surround, take it the top of clamp fits into the bottom of the right centre air vent. Are the clamps as easy to remove as fit and leave a damage free dash?

As i said earlier as long as you don't use the Sticky pad (which in all honesty you don't need) then the mount can be fitted/removed in about 10 secs without any damage/residue

Can confirm this. I've used them in various cars for this very reason as lease companies don't take kindly to you damaging the dash...

Thanks for the input and I appreciate that the clamp will pull out and refit easily providing the sticky tape is not used but once the clamp is removed is there no panel gap distortion where the clamp was fitted? Did you not expose the sticky tape or did you remove it completely?

There is no gap distortion or anything like that.

The sticky tape is provided for you to add yourself so I just never fitted it

Not the best place for a Sat Nav though as it doesn't get a clear view of the sky as when it's at the top of the dash... And you'd have to take your eyes further away from the view of the road if you need to look at the screen for any reason...

I was aware of that, am considering one there for my phone too, but the OP stated he was looking to mount a SatNav...

I'm just about to order one, thanks for your help. Can you confirm that the centre fit Pro Clip (as Raglits), the top fixes into the bottom of the right hand air vent and the bottom of it into the dash edge just above the Bolero. Also that the Pro Clip with its appropriate holder screwed on, removes and refits easily as one complete unit ?

Clear as mud!!

I'm aware of that too

I have my Garmin mounted to the inside of the top box. Works great from there and hides the mounting plate when not being used.

That's what I mean, can the the mounting plate complete with Pro Clip be removed and refitted easily. My sat nav usage is only occasional and not on a regular basis, which is why I need easy complete removal and refit as and when required.

With the Octy2 I had, I used the same bracket Chris uses for his phone with my TomTom and never had any problems personally - either with GPS signal strength or seeing the unit.

Also check out www.dashmount.co.uk. I always check them too when I'm considering mounts, as often they have slightly different designs that can be better in some cases. Worth a check anyway.

Steve

Personally I would put it in the bin!

They're bloody awful & expensive. You can get a decent mount from Arkon, which is rock steady & a LOT cheaper too, I've got one for my TTG 720 & I'm going to get another for my mobile phone too (when I change it).

Just as I was about to hit the "buy now" following all the positive comments along comes a 'kill joy'. Take it you are not a Brodit fan?:giggle:

I just use the rubber sucker on the disc that the Garmin came with.

No need for a Brodit mount at all ..for me

Most definitely not. For what it is, it's exceptionally expensive.

I've had my Arkon Mount for 2 years & it's brilliant. Rock solid, easily removable.

Have a look here: Arkon at 7dayshop.

I've said in the past they're not cheap, but for me they do the job well.

I don't want to stick a circular disc to the dash, and the mount that came with my Navigon doesn't stick to the dashtop box dues to it's wierd shape. I'm not a fan of vent mounts although they may work better in the Octy than cars I've had in the past. The Saabs didn't work with vent mounts due to their design. I absolutely detest windscreen mounts too

So whilst the prices on that page are cheaper than the Brodit mounts, there's nothing there that I would buy...

But they don't require any strength to fit/remove them, you don't need to muck around with the cars interior either.

Cheaper, easier.

and nothing that fit's my Sat nav... I could be tempted by one of the iPhone ones when I have a closer look at them. All depends if they have something I'll use which means not on the windscreen and not a friction dashtop mount. At those prices I may risk trying the vent mount...

and to be fair, you don't exactly need strength to fit/remove the brodit clips either...

I've got a Navigon, my ex kept the TomTom  :(
