air conditioning problems.

hello, i've got a 1.9 dti octavia and its great. The only problem is the air con, There is plenty of gas in the system so i'm guessing it needs more than a re-charge. Are there any more tests i can try

What exactly is the nature of the problem?

Do you have any air (cold or hot) coming through at all?

I am having a problem with mine such that, even with the fan at full power, nothing happens at all. My local garage plugged it into the diagnostics machine, and it registered a fault with the "fresh air blower" (-V2).

I haven't yet had the work done, but they said that to fit a new blower (from Skoda) will be about £230 +VAT, plus labour on top of that. They also said that it might just be a loose connection, but Skoda recommend replacing the whole unit.

If its not blowing air out ! just fit a new pollen filter (or remove it and leave it out) as when dirty it stops the airflow

There you are I have just saved you £230 so will send my bill for my knowledge ! (only joking )

Radiotwo,

Thanks for the reply, but I have just had the pollen filter changed and a full service, so this is the only thing that seems to be left :(

[edit: ]I just got a return 'phone call from the garage, who say that Skoda say it's more likely to be a solenoid than the blower itself (£80 instead of £230), which would be much better :)[/edit]

You need to start a new thread about the wipers, and don't hijack other peoples threads.

Or the clutch might have fallen off the aircon pump.

I have been told by an Aircon engineer that the solenoid which opens the valve to allow refrigerant thought the system is a two stage system. If the ambient temperature is below about 23 deg c, only the first stage opens. This is to minimise the effect of the aircon pump on fuel consumption in winter, when you just need to dry the air rather than cool it. In warmer weather, it should open the second stage to allow full flow. My Aircon doesn't open the valve fully in hot weather, but I don't know whether it's and electrical fault or the solenoid. As a result, the pump seems to be struggling to pull refrigerant through ( you can feel it vibrate on the clutch pedal). As of today, I think it's a pump swap as the solenoid is built into the body.

i have a spare compressor/pump......

that sounds similar to whats going on with mine. just had a full aircon service today thinking it needed regassing as its not cooling alot but its no change. it cools but nowhere near ice cool. grr
