Just placed an order

Featured Replies

We've placed an order for a red and white Fabia Elegance Hatch 1.2TSi DSG. Just wanted to say hi and no doubt once we take delivery I'll be on here asking a few questions!

Delivery has been estimated at August/September time.

Quite a few going for Elegance spec, that VAT free offer saves a bundle!

Good choice :)

True - fancied a few toys and by the time you spec up an SE with a few options it becomes more expensive.

We tried the 1.2TSi in a new shape Polo with the manual gearbox. My goodness, it goes for a small engine!

That's what I like to hear! I still haven't tried the TSI engine yet :S

Sounds promising for the TSI though....I`ve just ordered an elegance estate with the 105bhp engine. As people have been saying the VAT free offer makes the top of the range well affordable  Getting mine in Brunello red and cant wait to try this engine.....only problem is the car is still stuck in Emden with a lack of teutonic efficency to get it on a boat here :( suppose I`ll have to be patient but just want to get me hands on it

1.2TSi DSG is great in the Fabia. It really feels like an awful lot more than 105BHP. The gearbox is clever, you can cruise along at 40mph in 7th put your foot down and it changes to 3rd instantly and shoots off.

Music to my ears

We test drove a 1.2 70bhp in the Fabia and that felt nippy enough so looking forward to the 105bhp (and turbo). The Polo 1.2TSI had a great boost of power, say going from 50 to 70mph.

So what colours are people going for?

That's good to hear. I drove a 1.2TSI non-DSG Yeti a few weeks ago. While I was very impressed with the engine (comparable to my Mk1 2.0i), I was disappointed by a short lag when putting my foot down - up to about 1 second or so. Have you noticed any lag?

The Polo I test drove had a slight lag but I wasn't sure if that was my driving style - it was a manual and I normally drive automatics so I was in "transition" phase, plus a different car etc meant if I had the car longer I'm sure I would adapt my driving style to it. DSG would probably make a difference too.

I get a similar lag in my Octy tsi DSG, but tends to be only when I floor it at higher speed (the dsg can be dropping from 7th to 3rd) hence the delay i guess. I find a slightly less dramatic prod of the accelerator largely avoids the lag while giving very good acceleration. Given the torque band of the TSIs i don't think they necessarily need the revs and thus such a drop in cogs to achieve acceleration.

The Yeti I drove was a non-dsg 105 tsi, so cog-swapping is not the reason. The lag occurred at all speeds. I would have suspected it to be the turbo if it were only at high speeds, so I cannot explain it. Some Yeti owners did not notice it, so maybe there was a set-up problem on the one I drove. That is why I would like to know of other's experience - particularly with the Fabia.

I've reread your post properly now! Hm, not sure why the lag on a manual. The early Fabia mk1 1.4 100bhp used to have this as well I believe

That's because I have now written it properly ;)

My Mk1 2.0i goes as soon as I floor it. The 1.2tsi is just as good once it gets going, but it scratches its head for a while. Unfortunately, there do not seem to be any 1.2tsi Fabias round here for testing - and certainly no DSGs. It seems that the only ones coming in have already been ordered.

I would imagine the delay on the Yeti could be because it's a much heavier car than the Fabia so when it is "off turbo" the extra weight is a little bit too much for the small capacity engine to cope with until the turbo spools up?

Theres a bit of a lag in my tsi fabia but once the revs start to build up its almost takes off.

This sounds more like turbo-lag. The sort of lag I experienced in the 105tsi Yeti did not seem to be due to revs. While at approximately the same revs, there was a delay in power delivery - as if it were scratching its head about what to do.

Sounds like it's just turbo-lag to me. You soon get used to that.

Yea...and it's always worse when the engines are very new and a bit tight!

Today, I test drove a brand new Fabia Elegance 105tsi (manual). The same lag is there. The dealer told me it was the same across the tsi range. I expect I could learn to live with it. However, other aspects of the Mk2 Fabia still disappoint me compared to my Mk1 - e.g. poorer handling, the extremely flimsy door handles, reduced storage space. One other thing I noticed today, driving along winding hill roads, was reduced vision at the front because of the smaller windscreen. The rear-view mirror sometimes obscured the view. I would have placed it one inch higher. When I got back into my Mk1 Elegance 2.0i, it felt silky-smooth, more quiet, more comfortable, more solid and more stable. I felt more in contact with the road.

The zero VAT offer and the 1.2tsi engine sparked renewed interest in me for the Mk2 Fabia and I was very tempted to take the plunge, but I will stick with my 5-year old Mk1 for now. To me, it is a better car - but I would have appreciated the extra mpg (I have averaged 35.2mpg over 58K miles.)

interesting comparison. I've only ever had a couple of drives in a mk2 and found it OK, but i have to say i think Skoda got it absolutely right at the time with the Mk1. It really was/is a good car: great ride without much handling compromise, roomy and some quick engines. It was way head of the opposition at the time of its launch, and still compares well now. I had two, and i don't think I'll ever be fonder of another car than I was of my first one!

I think this is why I still havent got rid of my Mk1 , 5 years and counting now , and just flew through its MOT again , 3rd year in a row its needed nowt to pass!
