Fto or honda prelude vtec?

Featured Replies

Ok now im not using the vrs everyday for work im thinking about selling it after 3 years of happy times! :(

I was thinking about getting a mk3 golf vr6 but ive starting thinking about going Jap! never had a jap car before and fancy a change form vag for a while

Been thinking maybe a Mitsubishi fto mivec v6 or honda prelude 2.2 vtec! I know they both handle well, the fto sounds sweet with the v6 though think i prefer the look of the 5th gen prelude............ any thoughts people anyone had either? Which is the quicker car/best to drive? not worried about mpg will only be weekend use. Thanks.

I'd rather a Silvia, and I know Allytech runs a modded Silvia that was in one of the Jap mags last year.

Tell me more about this Silvia? i take your talking about a S14 ?

I owned an S14 for a couple of years and thought it was great. It is a sub 7 seconds car to 60mph out of the box and handled really well. I also considered the Honda, but after driving one thought it lacked the low down urge I'd experienced in the Nissan. I'd always considered the FTO a bit of a girls car and one that people bought if they hadn't done their research, (I could be wrong on this of course).

Every time I see a 200sx, I get the urge to have a look on the Autotrader website. I do get to travel in an Integra Type R as my mate has one and although I love the sound, it isn't what you'd call a relaxing ride. Turbo power is for me, the best way to move around. The FTO sounds okay, but I'd put it in the same category as the Mazda MX3 V6, a bit limp wristed.

2. Honda

3. FTO (If you must)

How about a Mazda 3 MPS? Wolf in sheeps clothing that can definately suprise a few people. A guy on their forums has just had his remapped to 350 bhp lol

Ha would love one but forgot to mention im on a tight budget only looking to spend about £2- 3k .

I would'nt compare an fto with a mazda mx3 v6 though if im correct alot less power from the mx3 and a 1.8.

If i really did have to Choose ........ Then the Vtec Prelude . The Fto should be Bypassed ... !!!!!

Dean

never been in a prelude TBH, but have driven a friends mitsubishi FTO mivec jobby.

it cost him an arm and a leg to run. it had some sort of fandangled gearbox that went wrong and cost him more than the car was worth to fix, nd that was just one of the issues. he handling was skittish and i wouldnt consider it if i were looking.

nissan 200sx for me

Apparently the downpipe on the FTO can be quite expensive to replace too.

SR20 FTW!!!

But if it had to be a straight choice between the FTO or the Prelude, I'd opt for the Honda.

pull a premium one week before race wars...

PMSL

'I need NOS!!!'

gmaster - decent list, but I fear that there could be some potential reliability issues some of the listed cars....

From the new list - I'd pick the Accord Type R B)

Good luck with the FTO test drive - let us know how it goes.

I looked into how many of these are left a couple of months ago. Most of the ones advertised at the time were quite high mileage and had been modified in some way. They were on my list when looking for the vRS nearly five years ago. There were more about then in better condition, but I'd still consider one if it was in original condition. I suppose there must be an equivalent to Briskoda where there are some good examples in the hands of enthusiasts.

Just thought id follow this thread up, drove my mate's fto last weekend it's a v6 mivec tiptronic........and if im being honest ... i loved it!

I was quiet surprised by this little jap car! the first thing is that v6 it sounds sweet i also loved driving the car using the tiptronic box just tap the gear lever up or down to change gears very quick gear change too. My next surprise is that mad 8k rev limit, i was given it some and thinking it's not that quick then relising i was changing gear at 5.5k rpm

Another blast upto about 7k rpm and feck me it seems to fly! ! it's by no means slow, but loves the revs, is still fairly quick at slower speeds in a high gear, but you would need to change down for any real go not like the turbo thrust of the vrs.

I dont think i could use an fto everyday as i like lazy low down power for day to day driving but for a weekend blast hell yeah!

This car love's the bendy stuff to handles very well with very little roll and stable, i hear an fto calling me ....roll on the weekends

Neither. I'm currently reading 'The Forgotten Highlander' by Alistair Urquhart. OK, the crimes were committed by a previous generation but the current generation is trying to quietly airbrush them from history. I won't buy anything Japanese whatsoever out of respect for the British soldiers who suffered so terribly at their hands. -

Just out of interest, does this apply to any nation that has caused pain or misery on another?
