Bi-Xenon headlight

Featured Replies

This is probably a stupid question but what are Bi-Xenon headlamps??

And how do they differ from plain ordinary Xenon headlight??? What does the 'Bi' mean??

:dull:

Bi Xenon uses a reflector for the high beam instead of a separate halogen bulb.

Bi-xenon means both main beam and dipped are xenon lights

You either get them like has been mentioned which uses the same bulb and a diff reflector or you get two separate xenon bulbs per headlight (one for dipped and one for main)

Don't know about the yeti but the Mk2 Superb I think uses this system as do some high spec Audi, Mercedes, BMW etc

Cool, thanks both B)

Both the Yeti's (and I suspect the other Skoda vehicles) use a single Xenon bulb to provide both dipped and high beam. The dipped function is handled with a little blind, which cuts off the top of the beam. High beam lifts this and lets the full light from the bulb out. The same blind is also used to switch from driving left or right side of the road.

The focusing of the beam is - in my opinion - strongly biased towards the dipped beam, so I am missing a little light intensity beyond the 100 m or so covered by the dipped beam. It is not that it isn't good at high beam in relation to incandescent bulbs, but a separate xenon long distance bulb would be preferable.

Retro xenon spot lamps it is then

That was also my conclusion, but I have yet to find a non-obtrusive place to put them. I don't like the bully bars and I don't really want them below the license plate, so somewhere in front of or even in the top grille?
