Fabia SDI Issues

Featured Replies

Hi hopefully some of you guys / gals could shed some light on a few issues i have,

1- No reverse lights (both bulbs are not blown)

2- Cold air blows out of passenger footwell when blowers are turned on

Any help would be appreciated

Steve

Hi mate Mrs Grr has an SDI.

Not sure about the reverse lights but I suspect the switch on the gearbox??

As for the cold air, I had this with my VRS. Look right under the glove box. Nope... Further....

Are You on your knees yet looking up at the underside of the dash? Good.

That's where you need to be to see this properly... There is a black plastic box under there.

About 2 inches wide by about 9 inches long.

This is the housing for the pollen filter. If it doesn't have a lid on it and you can see the actual

filter. The reason for the draught is no lid. If it does (fingers crossed..) it may have been incorrectly re-fitted

when changed last. There should be 2 sliding clip thing that hold the lid on the base of the box.

If one is missing the thing won't seal properly and it will leak air into the footwell,

Somebody had lost both the clips to mine and I found the lid just rattling about in my glovebox.

New clips were about 50p each from skoda. Refitted lid. Draught gone.

Ahh right i thought it had something to do with that!!

there is no lid on it the pollen filter just pulls right out....

any idea where i could get a lid???

as for the reverse lights.... in the gearbox do u mean where the gear lever is?

Yes, there is a switch on the gear selector that engages the reverse lights, it could be that

or if you're lucky just a broken wire down there somewhere.

Have you checked the fuses? I don't know if

reverse lights have their own fuse or not?

Get the lid and clips from Skoda Main dealer, Replace the pollen filter while you're at it,

You should fix this because it will drip water into the footwell too if the filte rshould become clogged

with leaves and whatnot... Especially as summer comes and you want to use the aircon.

The lid and clips I doubt will exceed about five or six quid.

With a new filter you'li spend about 12 quid total I reckon.

While you're down there get them to advise on the rev lamps if you're still stuck...

Watch this space and I'll post the part numbers in the morning for the lid and clips.

When you put it into reverse with the heater on, does the pitch of the fan (heater, not engine) change in pitch? (Same noise as pressing the arrow symbol under the heater controls.) It should turn on the re-cirulation mode to stop you sucking up your own emissions.

My guess would be that if it doesn't change then it's the switch/sensor/wire on the gearbox as suggested above, rather than a fault in the lights wiring or the fuses.

Good call, easy way to test if it "knows" whether or not it's in reverse...

I should have thought of that... ;)

Hi,

After testing today the fuse is still ok

the fan does not change pitch when in reverse only when i press the arrow.

Where is this sensor located and how easy is it to fix / replace?

Steve

Hi again mate,

No idea about the switch/sensor but

here's the part numbers I promised.

"Lid" for filterbox 600.819.422 B (i'd guess about 3 or 4 pounds...)

Clips for above ( x2 required. ) 600.815.391 (I'd guess about a pound each)

I took these numbers from the actual parts on Mrs Grrs car.

The lid is "L" shaped. it's a little bit fiddly to put on but you'll know when it's in place.

The clips clip to the centre of the lid and each slides away from the centre over

two "runners" on the filterbox holding it in place. When you've done it once before,

its a 1 minute job. No tools required.

Don't know if this helps but my son's Fabia reversing lights stopped working too.

There's a switch right next to the gearbox (underneath the car) when you select reverse it presses the switch.

I couldn't get one from my Skoda dealer...well, not unless I waited, so I got a VW Polo switch which worked just fine.

Took about 10 minutes to fix.

Do you still need this 'lid', or anyone else. I found it, from my Octavia II i think part number is: 600.819.422 B
