First Service - Recalls? ECU Flash?

Featured Replies

My vRS is going in Friday for it's first service and is due out of warranty in about 8 weeks time. Is there any recalls or ECU upgrades that I should ask for?

I'm going to get the oil and oil filter changed, the air filter is K&N is I'll clean that myself afterwards. Any thing else that should be done? The pollen filter is the only thing I can think of....

How does an CR go out of warranty in 8 weeks time? surely they were only available from mid-late 2008 on the vRS?

meaning youve got til id guess at least next July of warranty....

That's shocking! Having your first service close to the end or even out of warranty!!

Car was bought in July 2008, only a 2 year warranty in Ireland

I didn't buy the car new and I haven't the car that long and waited for the first service request to come on as I knew was due soon.

I am changing the car to a fix 10,000 mile service too

Not everyone get's a 3 year warranty in the UK either... it's unlimited mileage or 2 years from Skoda, and in the UK the third year is dealer warranty up to 60000 miles maximum. I effectively have a 2 year warranty, not 3 due to my mileage as I'll hit probably hit 60000 miles at around the two year mark.

Admittedly, it'll have had more than one service by the time it's two years old...

If you're getting a lot of fogging up on the windscreen or it's very slow to clear, changing the pollen filter should sort that out. If not, there's probably very little benefit.

Get the suspension bushings and wheel bearings checked for play, get things like the CV joint gaiters inspected (This is all pretty common for servicing anyway) make sure they use the right oil grade and get the brake fluid replaced if the car is heading for 2 years old, also check pads and disks for wear. If you have an empty oil bottle, bring it with you and ask the garage to fill it with the same oil they filled the car with, a 1l bottle was enough to tide me over between services anyway. Your car is new enough that there should be very little wrong with it, but no harm asking the garage to inspect the car and catch any problems early rather than failing the NCT later on over it. If it's a decent VAG dealer they'll do it as per the service schedule anyway.

Also if there are any VAGcom settings you want changed, DRLs, hijack locking, one button lock/unlock of all doors/driver's door, convenience indicators etc. ask them to do this as well...

Get them to check the differential pressure sensor for the DPF. I HAD TO GET MIND REPLACED. My warranty is up the end of August.

If you have not had the pollen filter changed in 2 years, I would get it done. Your lungs may thank you for it with what can start to grow on the things.

Isnt that 15,000 Kilometers over here?

Isnt that 15,000 Kilometers over here?

10000 miles should be 16000km (16180km if we're being fairly picky...) as 1 mile is approx. 1.618 km

I only mentioned that as we have Kilometers on our clocks here not miles.

But as you corrected me then just to let you know you are 93.44 km's out in your calculations.

Please remember I am only pointing this out If we are being picky as you said emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

10000 mi. = 16093.44 km actually.

That's what I got first time round... but when I recalculated it I got my figure... and then on the best of three, obviously used the correct conversion first time round and wrong one the second and third emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Edit: Worked it out... Thicko here used 1770 yards in a mile, not 1760 emoticon-0149-no.gif

Will do, do these fail often?

Will do

As for the fixed scheduling, what is the norm, I thought it was 10k miles?

@Vectra1: you can change from KM to miles via the maxi dot. I still prefer miles

They did fail a lot on the PD engines. The service guy at the dealers said they will tend to fail with time.........

It doesn't change the speedo, only the mileage and the MPG's. I have no probs with the speedo but miles make more sense to me. Bit old fashioned that way :giggle:

Right, another for the list. cheers.
