alarm maybe?

Its the temperature sensor for the Air Con

I seem to recall reading that it was a sensor for the climate control, so that if it was sunny, it would cool the car a bit more.

Thanks. I thought it looked like a sensor of some sort but didn't think it was an alarm movement sensor.

Just as I said ;)

Thats it, if you have climate control then there is a sensor there for the interior. If you have a standard system then there is a blank in that location.

Now - if mine was a blank it would really annoy me sitting there reflecting on the windscreen for no good reason. But since I have climate control at least I know now that it's useful.

It's not a temp sensor.

It's a sunlight sensor. I think it's used to pre-empt temperature changes due to the sun.

whatever it is your right.....its well annoying  reflecting in the windscreen grrrrrrrrrr

Isn't the sunlight sensor in the box behind the rear vision mirror, as well as the rain sensor?

I thought that light/sun sensor was responsible for turning on the auto lights.

I had been wondering about the lump in the middle top of the dash though, I can see by its placement that it could sens sun and increase the air-con, wouldn't it also be able to do that by sensing temperature? Since it is very dark coloured and exposed to the sun it would warm quickly if the sun shone on it.

My guess as well is it is the sun sensor.....most of the cars have it in that place.

but what about dual zone climate control? - wouldnt that need 2 lumps?

The base of that sensor provides a handy place to stick my plastic Mojo Jojo so he can best survey (With disapproval) what's going on in the car :)...

Thread renaissance!

My sensor square thingy is rattling/buzzing at certain revs. Does my head in! Only tracked it down tonight (about 1am) so haven't poked around too much yet... How does it come off, please? Will try and insulate it tomorrow so it doesn't rattle anymore. Thanks.

You should ask these guys :giggle:

Sunlight sensor as stated - same location in my old A3, alarm sensors are in the roof panel - just behind the sun glasses holder. Only one sunlight sensor in a Dual Zone Climate system as there is only one Sun, so only one sensor to see how much sun is shining onto the dash  or should that be :sun:
