No 1.2 DSG SE Demonstrators?

Featured Replies

Yep, 6 forward gears.

Plus one reverse makes 7 :giggle:

I think the limit for the small seven (forward) speed DSG is stated as 250 Nm.

Thanks Fred and Rob!

Macdemon- The diesel DSGs have 6 gears (unless it's a 1.6CR DSG on an Octavia) and all the petrol DSGs (bar the 3.6 Superb) now have 7 speed DSGs.

It's to do with the extra torque the larger diesel engine produces, the 7 speed gearbox has twin dry clutches where as the 6 speed has twin wet clutches and I suspect the dry clutches may overheat if they are subjected to the torque of the 2.0TDi engines. I think the limit of the 7 speed gearbox is 280Nm.

Not wishing to 'teach Grandmother to suck eggs' but isn't the DSG as fitted to the 2.0L TFSI in the vRS Octy, Golf GTI etc. a 6 speed?

Yeah sorry I should have said all the torquey engines have the 6 speed gearbox. So the 2.0TDi and the 2.0TSi.

James, does that mean the 7 speed dry clutch boxes will need cluch(s) changing at some time like a manual does due to wear?

I understand typical auto boxes, but am green on the DSG.

I think it is possible to require replacing clutches on either 6 or 7 speed gearboxes. But I know taxi chaps who have got PD105 Octavias with DSG and they've done upwards of 150k with no need to replace anything apart from gearbox oil every 60k or whatever it is.

Does anyone know what the official mileage the DSG gearbox oil should be replaced I can't find it in a service book and the guys in the workshop are all busy.

I'm sure I read that it was 40k or 4 years. At least that's what it was on the old DSG 6 speed on my last car, an Altea TDi.

Came across a interesting VW film regard the 7 speed DSG

enjoy :)

Now I've ordered there are three 1.2 TSI DSG for sale listed in Autotrader, (Liverpool, Derby and somewhere in Essex) including an ex demo.

(Good job none of them is red with the options I've ordered! :whew: )
