Tyres

Featured Replies

What are folks on here using a decent but low price tyre for the mk1 vrs?

Currently have kuhmo ku31 on but will need changing soon and wondered what folk recommend?

Also is it worth upping the width from standard to 225/45/17 ?

Thanks

Kumho KU31

Toyo T1R

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo

Falken 452s

All fairly cheap but all reasonably ok.

It depends on current tyre prices but last time I looked at changing to 225/45 I would have been able to save about £8-10 each time I needed a new tyre, but then the cost of buying four 225/45/17's all at once put me off so still have the original size on mine

can't i just change the fronts or do they have to all be done at once?

Toyo T1-R's in 225/45/17 every time, terrific in all weathers and really do grip.

I cannot really see the point of having a car that will do 140mph and then put low price tyres on it??????

You're not allowed wider fronts than rears, so you'd either have to change the rears first or change all four at once

Thought 215/45's were the equivalent to 205/50,if 225 surely this would need to be 40's

I'm running T1-R's 225/45/17 all round love them, hate Goodyear f1's well the car does.

They dont make a 225/40/17 and the tyres to run are the 225's as they a closer rolling circumference, so I was told by Camskill in Whitehaven and they know they're stuff.

cost isn't really an issue to be honest, just don't see any point in paying more if there are not any clear benefits?

any other brands and types i shouldbe considering?

I've just replaced my Toyo T1-Rs with Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. Not because I didn't like the Toyos, have had several sets, but just to try something else.

Bearing in mind I'm no racing driver or tyre expert I do think they feel just as good if not a bit better than the Toyos. I'm also running 225/45/17s.

any other recommendations?

I've personally tried (on my vRS, a few other things on other cars) Toyo Proxes, Michelin Pilot Sport 2s, Goodyear Eagle F1As. I'm about to try Vred Ultrac Sessantas. All of these are 225/45 which I moved to shortly after buying the car. So far, the PS2s were outright best, but also massively expensive. Proxes seemed like a nice compromise. Looking forward to trying the Sessantas though.

The others mentioned are all worth a go. For cheapness, stick with KU31, for moderate either Hankook V12s or Proxes, for top money Sessantas, F1As, Pilot Exalto 2s. That's based on a mix of cars, experience and mates experiences.

i got a set of 4 ku31s 225/45/17 for £289 fitted a few months ago.unless you drive like a nutter you dont really need better than these tyres can provide in terms of grip in the dry.in the wet though they dont do so well, but for £72 a corner you cant complain.
