Electrical mismatch...

Featured Replies

have had an ongoing problem with the drivers door where I can lock all otherdoors with key fob but drivers won't lock. also the little courtesy light on interior of door never comes on but works as I've checked it on the passenger door and now the drivers exterior mirror doesn't work. when I try to move it the left mirror moves. I thought I might have had a faulty micro switch on the door loch mechanism but was starting to think I might have pinched the loom of wires coming from car to door!

got hold of a voltmeter and discovered that at the drivers door the live wires are carrying 1 volt as against 24.7 volts

in the passenger door on same wires!!!

does this sound like dodgy connection somewhere or any other suggestions!?!

thanks in advance

mine had same faults from when new

hope its under warranty cos the list of parts will probably be:

central convenience module

window regulator

door loom

door membrane

various trim clips which will break

total bill for parts i believe is around £400 :o

no idea what the ccm is,door loom makes sense but can't see why new regulator, clips and membrane needed!?!

you could be right but still hoping it's somthing bit more diyable.

thought I might have pinched and damaged the loom of wires coming in at the door hinges

any other ideas???

no warranty by the way emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

check the connector to the window regulator first - the regulator does all the door electric functions.

if the pins are corroded replace regulator and check (hope) that sorts it

if not then try wiring loom

if that fails only thing left is ccm

the membrane is required or your door won't be watertight, and new trim clips are only common sense cos the old ones will be twisted and it'll look like the door card is hanging off if you don't replace when putting back on

From my experience of this exact problem you have both a faulty lock mechanism and wiring fault.I find the voltage readings weird, surely correct reading should be 12V in all cases 24.7V???.I have never solved mirror prob, remote lock, courtest light ,door lock switch and lock indicator light (top of door) .....yes.

will have a look at these parts. would you suggest the wiring loom might be damagaed at the door hinge or would there be a better place to check on it?

fingers crossed something will turn up

thanks for the replies

yes main power line does fail at door hinge - you may be able to reapir but better to replace tbh - only prob is a door loom is around £80

only other place to check is the connector to the regulator - these have a common history of corroding and the pins falling out.

mine needed all these parts replaced to regain full functionality

good call mate!!

checked the connector to the regulator and it looks nackered

cant be 100% but presume this is the problem. is this the part you said was £80 and was your one in the same shape.did you have to replace the regulator also?

tried to get a pic of the regulator side of connection but not as clear

IMG_0331.jpg

doesnt look great either. not impressed as i only had this replaced a while back. is it moisture getting in to the door causes this you reckon??

thanks for your help and suggestions

hi garage has done all mine so only going on what they have said and what other have experienced on here.

i'd check there are no broken pins on either connection and then clean each up and see if it works

if that doesn't work i'd check the loom carefully for signals and then if it appears ok start replacing components in the order i suggested

all i know is my one was totally knackered and needed all those parts replaced

cause is moisture getting into the plug and corroding it - try to seal it with petroleum jelly and then plumbers amalgam tape - also worth trying to rig up a drip stop using a cable tie just above where the water runs into connector
