Aircon Fan?

Featured Replies

Hello all, I had my aircon gased at work on saturday as I felt it wasn't cold enough, and also I wasnt sure of the last time it had been done. It had gas in it still but it was regassed and leak tested. All fine, no leaks and held pressure. The strange thing started when we ran the aircon, the tech said the temperature thing on the 'regasser' should go right down. It didnt. He also said that when the aircon is turned on, a fan should have kicked in to cool the air as the car was stationary. It gets cooler whilst driving along, but warms slightly when you come to a stop. Does this sound right?? All the BMWs we tried it on all had a fan kick in when the aircon was turned on.

Fan behind the radiator should start as soon as the aircon is switched on and internal heater fan set to any speed. Check all fuses including the bar fuses on top of the battery. Code scan will say if there are any other faults.

Right, I'm mega baffled now. Checked all the engine electronis related and heating related fuses, all fine. Checked the four fuses under the battery cover whatever they're for, all fine. I sat for 10 mins with it running from warm, and no fans. Turned on aircon, fans full power, 2(cos 1's stopped working), 3 still no fans cutting in. I havent been able to put vagcom on it yet cos I havent seen my mate with it but i'm almost certain it'll turn nothing up. Its always been like it and I've vagcommed it before with no mention to fans. Any other things for me to check other than another vagcom??

I have the same issue with my fabia but have never taken the time to diagnose it. Same symptoms, aircon doesn't really get really cold for at least a few minutes into the start of the journey.. Dont hear any fans cut in when the AC is turned on which i believe there should be..

Was going to run some output tests to see if the fan starts up when the output is set, otherwise there must be an issue somewhere..

I'll perhaps take a look at mine tomorrow and post results, but can only test properly again on a hot day..

You're not alone :)

Have you checked the fan control module? from memory its bolted to the very bottom of the n/s chassis leg
