Temperature gauge intermittent fault

Featured Replies

Hi,

The temp gauge on the PD130 has, for a while now, tended to be reading ok one minute, then be at minimum the next, then back to 90degrees again. It would take less than a second to go from min to 90, so I know it's not a "real" reading.

More recently, it's tended to be "off" (i.e. no temp reading) more often than its on.

If the sensor was faulty, wouldn't this affect the way the engine runs? Is this a common fault on the mk1?

Thanks,

Martin

ps, anyone know of a part number (and cost?) for the L&K headlamp washer pod on the front bumper? A slow, lazy bird did for mine the other week....

It's got to be the sensor

It is a two way deal on it, in other words it send a signal to the dash and one to the ecu, so the dash part of yours is borked but the ecu bit should be ok.

A new genuine one is abot £30 and copy is probably around £10, I would go the genuine route myself.

Not sure of the location on a TDI, but if its like an 1.8t its easy enough to change yourself providing the engine is stone cold of course

HTH

mines exactly the same on my vrs. vag com'd it and ecu still has correct reading and fan etc will still kick in at right temp
