Daylight Running Lights

Featured Replies

Bit late in joining this thread but for what it is worth:

I will ALWAYS prefer to be seen by other road users. I control my own driving but can,t control others - so I want to be sure they see me.

Secondly - if someone else flashes you, WHO has the problem???

Thirdly they are not over bright and in-yer-face, merely very visible. In fact, as one of the convoy proceeding slowly through a veil of Elan dust last weekend I can tell you that actually they resemble little candles standing in their little glass pots.

I cannot see any sensible or logical reason to turn them off, except resistance to change!

Just think, if someone flashes you the DRL's must be doing their job.....................they've obviously seen you!!!

I agree with Llanigraham!

I live in Finland where it has been compulsory to use DLR (mainly dipped-beam) outside ciy areas for as long as i can remember (which would be at least early 80's) and even compulsory inside cities since '95 or so. This means that when I see a car without lights on my immediate instinct is that it's not running, and I need to actively look at it again to verify if it is running or parked. I can confirm that using DLRs makes the car much more visible in almost all driving conditions, and IMHO not using DLRs is really saving in the wrong place. I know things are different where most of the rest of you live, I just wanted to bring out the opinion of one that has grown up with cars driving around with the lights on even during the day.

Indeed! If people where to flash me I really would just ignore it. They saw me, we passed each other and they can live their narrowminded lives without me ever having to know their names or paying their hospital bills.

You guys have it all wrong. Don't you see? It is just a flash of appreciation and admiration of the fine SM they have just seen B)

In a few years time people will be flashing all of the older cars that don't have DRLs :smirk:

I have to say that if I had a lack of taste and bought a new Range Rover then you really would have to totally oblivious to any remaining taste to run with their sprinkled pixie dust LED DRLs turned on.....emoticon-0105-wink.gif

And what's wrong with Pixie dust?

They do have pathetic DRLs don't they! They look like some far off star constelation. They must have looked good on the drawing board and then the bean counters realised they can save 10p per LED so every second one was taken out. But being in a recession they had to save even more money and thus every third and fourth one was taken out too... And what is left is so pathetic I have yet to see a single LR driver that have switched them on.
