17" octy VRS wheels

Featured Replies

Managed to find some octy 17" VRS wheels but they have 205/50 tyres on and I'been told by the fella selling them that they will rub on the rear left-hand inside the wheel well. There is a particular little shape that juts out that will fowl on the tyre if the car is lowered like mine.

Anybody know what this does and can it be "modded" to accept the 50s or is it some new tyres?

If it is new tyres then what can I get away with safely 40s or 45s?

Many thanks all.

its nowt to do with "safety"

its the rolling road radius you need to maintain to keep the speedo accurate...

215-40-17

As above! NO bigger than 215/40 R17!

Aaah crap!

New tyres it is then.

I'd run them on 205/40x17 tyres personally.

This LINK HERE is handy for calculating the rolling radius of tyres.

Mine are on 205/40/17, although 215's would give you a bit more width which is always good!

Jeez, have you seen the price difference between 4 205/40/17 and 4 215/40/17?

Rediculous.

Anybody know any good wheel refurb places that can get tyres cheap near Cheltenham?

some is £10 ish diff...not bad imo..

how will a wheel refurb place be able to supply tyres?

I was hoping to find somewhere that can refurb the wheels and fit the tyres at the same time for a reasonable price.

Anybody know of such a place near Chelt?

Cheers.

never known a wheel refurber who supplys tyres...some wheel refurbers will remove your tyres but get your own and get them to re-fit the new ones..

LOL, according to http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html - your wheel/tyre combo will be nearly 10% larger with 50s (assuming the wheel can be crammed into the wheelwell).

Looking at prices, 215/40 17s look like a good deal and won't affect the wheel/tyre size more than a couple of percent.
