manegment light

Featured Replies

Hi all, what i thought was the engine manegment light came on today when i started the car to come home from work :'( (standard 56 plate vrs).

Checked the manual and it calls the light "control system for exhaust-a fault exists in an exhaust relevant component"

I know i will need to get the fault codes read but in work tomorrow/friday and going away friday night for a long w/e in the car.

So,here go's with the questions,

1 The car drives as normal with no loss of power so is it ok to keep driving untill i can get it to a garage?

2 does the exhaust relevent component bit refer to an egr fault or could it still be any engine fault?

3 lets say it was an egr valve fault,if i were to clean it out and get rid of the fault would the light go out?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but as this is my first vag car (and first deisel) so i would like to have a bit of an idea before going to a garage.

Thanks dave

1) Yes, no worries

2) No - It is an engine fault, but could be anything - could also be nothing more than a momentary blip of a sensor. vagcom would confirm what triggered it.

3) Might need a new one, but probably unlikely to be this.

Exellent! Thanks for the quick reply, was the ability to drive the car i was most worried about.

The thought of losing 2 days work and missing the w/end would have ****ed me right off!

i'll have to make an effort to find a good local garage i can trust,(i do my own basic servicing) as this is the first time the fabias needed one

Thanks

One other thing, if the fault has now gone for the time being, the fault light will go out after a few engine starts - though the original fault code will still be held in memory.
