Air Con - Leaked

Featured Replies

Hi All,

First Time poster, and not very good with cars.

Went to use the Air Con the other day during the heat wave (or was that our Summer) and its not getting cold, I assumed it need a regas but not had chance to take it anywhere.

Now out of the Blue was talking to an Air Con Engineer who was working on the office units and he said he would take a look, he put some gas in to test for leaks and he found one coming out of a white cap on the top right of the condensor unit.

Now my Question, this white cap has a hex key in it and looks like its removable. Is it?

Whats the odds its just a seal under it thats gone or will it be a new condenser unit?

Cheers for the answers

hi

did you get this sorted as i am having the same problem now...

i did try removing that cap on my condensor but was very tight so left it , but not sure if they are removable or need a new condenser

That big white nut is the drier/receiver,you can replace it not sure of the part number.

Mine wasn't cooling properly either, even after a full aircon service/recharge. I took it back to the garage (VW/Audi) and they spent a few hours checking it out & couldn't find anything wrong.

I noticed that if the inside temperature was reasonably cool when I set off, the aircon coped no bother with cooling the car, even if the outside temp went up to 30c+, but if the car interior is red hot, then the aircon cannot cool it down.  The way I get round that is to try and park in a shady spot and open the windows as soon as I get in the car and drive with them open until the inside and outside temps have equalised, then the aircon starts to chill the air and I close the windows.  It works for me.

We took our '61 plate 1.6 CR in under warranty today as the Air Con was blowing warm.

New condenser being fitted on Monday.

Upside is that we have a '13  Yeti 4x4 to use for the weekend and impress the neighbours.  Wanted one of these, but couldn't afford it!! :giggle:
