Wheel judder at about 80mph?!

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

I have recently fitted a K&N Typhoon CAI. I jacked the car up on what seemed to be the best place (where is this, by the way) which I think was the front wishbone. I jacked it up where it has a bush, and bolt.

Ever since I have done this the car judders at just under 80mph, but if am below or above it is fine. Could this be linked? I'm thinking that maybe the rubber was old anyway and I have just finished it off.

When I bougt the car it had just had new discs and pads fitted, but from the word go it has juddered under heavy breaking. Could these two things be linked?

Thanks in advance

I'd say you might have knackered the wishbone bush.

If you're jacking up the front of the car use the marked jacking points on the sill just behind the wheelarch, or even better if you can jack the car up part of the way with the scissor jack get a proper trolley jack underneath it and jack on the strengthened bit that sticks out from the bottom of the car either side of the exhaust

i doubt by jacking off the wishbone mount that you will have damaged it. i have jacked at these points many times. High speed wheel judder which comes and goes is usually down to wheel balance or cheap tyres.

Cheers guys. It's definately not juddering because of wheel balance or tyres. They are good tyres, and it didn't judder before I jacked it up.

It was a trolley jack I used on the wishbone mount, I've a pebbled drive which means it'll find under.

What bushes do people recommend for the wishbones? I was thinking TT or cupra R

Cheers Billy,

I'll have a look at the SuperPRO and powerflex ones. Does anyone know if I get ones for maybe an S3, Cupra R, TT, or R32 that they will fit, and whether theya re any different to the standard vRS ones?

If you're getting judder under hard and/or high speed braking and no other time, the first port of call should be to check the run-out on the front discs. If you don't own a dial guage, it'll probably be cheapest to get a local garage to do this for you.

ne probs mate,

the TT / LCR ones are solid rubber iirc and the vRS ones have holes/gaps in them? the TT/LCR ones are more solid but still rubber. Id say get them as they will keep the noise down a tad more and I think they are cheaper than SuperPRO?

still a pain to fit yourself tho. a press is needed.

Have you checked if a balancing weight has fallen of one of the wheels?
