Xenon leveling problem on Superb 03

Featured Replies

Hi! I'm experencing problems with the self-leveling for the xenons on my superb 03. I get the message lights failure when I start the engine, and see that the xenons dont level up and down as they should. The fuse for the automatic headlight beam adjustment is ok, so the problem is somewhere else.. Can anyone help me with schematics so I can try to localize where the problem is? I dont know how the adjustment-system is configured, so any help here would be great =)

Thanks in advance

I had a problem with the self levelling and driver side xenon working intermittantly. My mechanic just squeeze the connectors on the bulb slightly as if they got loose over time (mine is a 02 superb elegance) and so far all is working perfectly.

Had a new axle fitted under warranty by main stealership, Afterward lights would not self level, they were clueless at Skoda.I discovered that the self levelling switch on the rear axle was fitted with the crank on the sensor upside down.reversed it and it works a treat. the sensor is under a plastic cover on the rear axle passenger side.

hope this was usefull,

A quick question if I may, at what point do the Xenons (or are they Bi-Xenons?) self level? I have a 06 plate Elegance with Bi-Xenons and I can't see them self level...

Also, why if they are Bi-Xenons does the main beam (not flashed) appear to be yellowish halogens?

Can somebody enlighten me please?

Thanks

Matthew

They self-level when you switch the ignition on. Turn the switch to the dipped position and then switch the ignition on and you should see the beam drop and then rise again.

The full beam has a halogen bulb aswell as the xenon, which is why it appears yellow. The halogen bulb also serves as the flash light when you flash the headlights without dipped beam being switched on.

I noticed that my 2000MY Passat 4Motion creaked a bit when jacked up at the front, but ignored it for a few years, that was until the car started creaking when when driving this past winter. Eventually in May while preparing it for its MOT I finally got round to bottoming out this creaking as I was worried that it would be the dreaded suspension arm bushes - eventually I traced the source of the noise down to the Xenon height sensor - its link ball joint was seized and the complete assembly was moving! Now that was an easy fix! Such a small part making all that noise, had to be seen/heard to be believed.

I hear some kind of creaking when the xenons are on as well.. Do you know where the xenon height sensor is placed? It's not much room back at the chamber for the xenons, can barely get there with my flashlight:P Maybe I'll try to dismantle them and see if all the connections are good =)

All I need for removing the chamber where the xenons are sitting is to remove the two or three screws on top, right? Or am I really on the wrong track now :p ?

Think I was waffling on a bit, the sensor that I was talking about is mounted on the N/S front, front or rear suspension alloy arm and the chassis above it. Any problem with that would move both front lights.

I have tried to localize the height sensor, but I'm having trouble finding it. Spent some time yesterday trying to localize it, but I didn't find. Maybe there are sitting on different places, the passats and the superbs.. Can anyone take a picture of the sensor and where it is located? It would help me a lot =)

Front sensor is bolted to N/S inner wing. Rear sensor is also on the N/S but it's under a plastic cover on the rear axle.

After a visit on my local garage it turned out it was trouble with the height-sensor on the front bearing arm... Great to have the xenon-problem out of earth, now i just have to sort out the front-door that will only unlock manually:P
