just bought a octavia vrs pd 170 estate.

Need a bottle of oil for topping up with - what can I use?

On variable service - do a need platinum oil?

You need a oil that meets VW spec 507.00, Get yourself down to you local ASDA, they sell MOBIL 1 ESP 5/30 5ltr for £32.00 which is one of the cheapest prices around for a quality oil,not sure how much they charge for a LTR.

507.00 is the 'only' oil you should use.

You could use a lower spec but only 0.5l and you then have top top it up with 507.00 as quickly as you can.

the PD seems to drink that stuff so always have some in the car.

I top my pd up with oil to day it has use 1litre of oil in 11 month

I got niffty Shell "kit" which sits in a little leatherette case in the boot, even has gloves and paper tissues lol.

??????????? Whats up with the Mobil 1 ESP then? Thats what my dealer uses?! I'm pretty sure its to spec............

I may have read it wrong, but I think profle was agreeing with the previous post and then reinforcing the fact that the oil has to meet 507.00 spec which Mobil1 ESP does...

Really?. Mine has used 1 litre in 13,000 miles. Sounds Ok to me!

I was agreeing.

My PD 170 A3 used to drink it. a litre every 7-10k !! and at £15 a litre it wasn't funny.

Hopefully the CR will be a little less thirsty.

I do between 2.5k and 3k a month though.

1.5l of the stuff in 9K!!!

I nearly fell over when I saw how much it was!
