Replacement seat?

Featured Replies

I'm still finding it impossible to avoid backache in my yeti even after 2000 miles.

Anyone know if I could order a new drivers seat with lumbar support from Skoda?

I presume you could but I guess it would be at quite a price.

If lumbar support is what you need, then presumably it's just the backrest you need?

I've just done a search and the following website offers solutions for office workers who need back support:

I also note that Halfords offer something as well.

Thanks john, I've tried aftermarket lumbar support but they are all too thick. I need about 1cm thick support behind my back, I'm even considering selling the yeti now, it's only 2 weeks old but I do a lot of mileage and need to be ache free!

I've priced one up in the past for a Fabia VRS, it was around £1000. I would expect that a Yeti one would be around £1500, assuming that it has a side airbag. Could you get a specialist company to retro fit an OE lumbar support? Members on these forums have used Seat Surgeons in York for complete leather retrims.

Did you consider Recaro?

Want a good seat? Try a Volvo. The reason I bought my V50 and not an Octavia scout was purely down to the seat comfort. In my opinion the Scout is a superior car though.

What about an Audi seat from a Breakers?

That's a thought. What about checking with a local upholsterer to see if they can insert a piece of foam in the backrest?

I second this option. Will be a LOT cheaper than replacing the whole seat! On certain Mercedes seats you also get these lumber and side supports to be inflatable. Thus you can increase and decrease the support. Perhaps look into inserting such a device?

Hi

Can't advise on new seat from Skoda, but it won't be cheap with the air bags etc and the fitting, but I had a disabled student with quite severe back problems who fitted a good quality car seat cover (very smart) which allowed for the side air bag fitted to his Vauxhall Zafira and had blow up lumbar support with a squeeze bulb inflator attached by vecro (so its position could be ajusted) inserted into it.

Unfortunately he no longer attends so I can't chase up details of suppliers for you.

But you might find that the suppliers of equipment for disabled drivers can help you.

One thing you might want to consider having had back problems for some years.

Whilst the lumber support is important getting your hips in line or slightly avove your knees will give your the best posture.

I have found that most car seats slope backwards so I have usually bought a wedge pad and used that to compenstate.

These can be bought on line e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ExtraSupport-Orthopaedic-43x43x7cm-17x17x2-8-ExtraComfort/dp/B000M4XA88

there are many styles, colours, angles available.

This maybe a low cost try first solution??
