ABS,Anti Skid lights on along with flashing Handbrake light and beeping noise.

Featured Replies

After all the work I just done on the car to get it through its mot (which it passed) I was hoping for a month or 2 of problem free use out of my car. Looks like I was wrong though. This morning on my way to work the car started sounding its warming alarm and the abs, anti skid lights came on. The handbrake light is also flashing.

Could this mean I have an abs system fault, bad earth somewhere or something worse.

The car is a 2001 Fabia combi Elegance 1.4 16v. Engine code is AUB

VagCom would tell you straight away/ Call out the AA/RAC once they plug it on the diagnostics they would confirm the fault

It would be like guess work on here..

The usual suspect is one of the ABS sensors

Check brake fluid

Brake pads low (Should not be the problem if its passed MOT)

Was any work carried out for the MOT? if so the battery may have been disconnected and not reconnected securley

Agreed; check the battery is showing 14..14.4v charge with the engine idling and normal electrical use. If it is then it's VCDS time. If it's not, check the battery terminals are secure, and get an auto electrician to check the alternator and its drive; if that's like the Octy, there's a sprague clutch on the alternator pulley that may have failed.

I did all the work myself. The car's had new brakes all round, new drop links, arb bushes, pre cat lambda sensor, mirrors rewired, lpg system serviced, new window switchs all round, new tyres, new blubs, washer jets reconnected, wipers fixed. Had it on our diagnostics machine (Latest BOSCH equipment released this month) last Thursday and all systems showed working fine apart from the air con cos it needs regasing.

Haven't needed to disconnect the battery but will check it later when I get home.

Check the Battery as above and also the exiter wire to the alternator from the battery (A wee single brown wire on its own coming from the battery) and its mounting on the gearbox. I had a very similar fault which included the speedo not working, and the diagnostics would not show it up.

I had the same problem on the wifes X reg Tdi 106,000 miles.Bought a cheap code reader from Ebay. It showed Front nearside,Front offside and Rear offside wheel sensors.I doubted they were at fault so sent the ABS module off for

testing.Came back as unrepairable, main processor failure. New one £350 from the Main Dealer, which I thought was reasonable. That is until I fitted it and the lights were still on. It had to be coded into the car at a cost of £125

Dealer only codes you see.

Its a good job its economical as in the last 12 months have fitted,

Cupra console bushes,

front nearside wheel bearing,

rear shocker,

rear discs and pads

,front shock absorber,

gearbox dogbone mount,

front spring (broken),

front strut bearing and top mount,

air con sensor.

I have also sealed the front door card leaks,

Rejoined the washer pipes in under the bonnet, over rear wheel and tailgate.

In fact if its been mentioned on this forum, I have probably had the problem.

Just the Turbo and Power steering to go.

Still quite like the car, apart from the hard unsupportive seats that is.

Thanks for the replies.

Very strange this as when I finished work. I started the car up and drove away. None of the lights I mentioned were lit. I took the same route home to see if it would happen and all was ok. I've checked all the earths coming from the battery and they seem ok. I've also checked the cable that runs around the heat shield and over to the alternator as I had to remove the heat shield to replace the pre cat lambda sensor.

So now its basically a wait to see if this happens again.

The only other thing that was happening was that there was a loud creaking coming from outside, underneath the car. This only happens when driving in wet weather though and still can't find the cause. The creaking happens when i go over uneven surface, gear change, acceleration and deceleration but hasn't caused the abs etc lights to come on before.

Sounds similar to the intermittent battery light I had flashing once..

Maybe your battery charged up on your way to work a drop in voltage may have caused this?

Skoda still have a long way to go

Its been 4 days now and they've not lit up again since. The ABS deffo works as it kicked in yesterday when I had to brake hard. Have checked all the earth points coming from the battery and they're all fine.

The squeaking noise has gone again but that was expected as it only happens when its raining and has been happening since I bought the car 3 months ago.
