Quick fabia 2 tsi facelift after 600 miles

Featured Replies

Well the Fabia has just passed 600 miles (651 to be exact) so i thought i'd post a quick update on how its getting on.

1) The engine. Its starting to come alive now, the mpg will now frequently average well over 50mpg on a run (say 10-15 miles or over) the gear shift indicator is really starting to improve my driving in terms of economy. Around town were now averaging anywhere between 30-40 depending on traffic and the type of driving obviously. The engine itself seems to be improving all the time, im starting to allow it to rev a bit higher and can confirm what a few others have said that the power does come in quite quickly after the initial 0-2000 lag, with the addition of a supercharger on the vrs its going to fly. Personally i think the tsi (85) 0-60 time is very conservative, i'm sure it'll get there much quicker but im not able to test that unfortunately

2) Reliability. This has been a bit disappointing, the parking sensors broke after a couple of hundred miles, i'm just waiting for the dealer to get the correct bits in stock and we should be away. More seriously the wipers stopped working in the rain the other day. VW assist came out and ran some tests, turned out to be a faulty controller or something. Apart from that its ok

3) Build quality. Unlike my Mk1 VRS the build quality seems much closer to VW in the mk2. Theres no rattles from any of the dash or doors etc and road noise isnt an issue on the elegance spec. The inside is a nice place to be and even after nearly 5 weeks i still look forward to getting into the car.

4) Eye catching. Just added this bit because yesterday i had 3 or 4 people come and ask me exactly what the car was, these were polo owners on two occasions and a fiesta owner on the 3rd.

Anyway its getting resprayed this morning (came from skoda with two small marks on the front so we'll be spending a day in the Aygo.

Many thanks for the review,

good to hear you like the TSI (85) for both performance and economy, as this is the engine we have gone for on our order emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Hope today's remedial work goes to your satisfaction.

Regards,

TP

Thanks for the review. It has been good to read about others opinions and experiences on the new Flabia while I wait for mine

Another thanks - always nice to hear real life opinions from owners.

I'm just about at 300 miles with mine, no problems at all. Engine is getting better every day, it's really starting to go now and economy is coming up. I've just been out to drive around the lakes for a couple of hours and the computer showed 47mpg average when I got back. That's on a mix of roads, 40 miles of motorway, some 60mph A road, stuck behind tourists at 40mph and some town stuff. If you need to overtake a 40mph tourist... Use 3rd gear, damn it pulls like hell :D

What a great little car!

didn't know you had changed the coupe! looking forward to havng a look at this at the NW meet :)

Agree with all thats been said, mine is just passing the 125mile mark and yes the Elelegance is a nice place to be and you do look forward to getting in. I agree the finish is very VW and has been commented on by friends who have looked at it..Economy is good getting mid 30`s purely round town and that should improve with time....and I love the gear shift indicator as its started to make me think more about how I drive B) ..Only slight snag is the idle revs level seem set too low and it keeps cutting out, very upsetting at junctions so going back in tomorrow for them to look at it......other than that top top car :thumbup:

Gutted to give the Coupe up, but the costs for the coming year would be as follows:

1 pair front tyres £150

1 year road tax £235

1 year insurance £350

4th service £400 - £500 (estimated)

Front discs and pads £275

MOT (can't see how it would have failed, but you never know)

Plus nearly 2 tanks of fuel a month due to 30mpg (or possibly less) commuting, and it was getting very scary for my meagre wages. :o

paully - is it cutting out when idling or are you just stalling it? Mine idles at 600rpm too, I'll rev it to about 1k to pull away though. I haven't stalled it yet. Also, get some photos up, I want to see what that Brunello colour looks like

I think Skoda quoted the same respective 0-60 times for the old engines vs. the new ones. They have the same power but the TSIs have much more torque than the old 1.4/1.6 and it is lower down too so they are certainly faster. I guess they quoted the same times for marketing reasons in countries where they are still trying to shift the old non-turbo engines!

This video would seem to suggest the 85BHP version can do 60 in 11sec and 80 in about 13, according to the speedo (and this a combi!)

At first i thought it was me not being used to it, but its worse, when you dip the clutch on approach to a road or roundabout, intending to get a flyer out and it just dies away...big problem is that the engine is so quiet you dont notice its cut out...they seem to think its a software issue....Re the photos, be a bit of a delay as I`m useless at this techno and lecktrikery stuff so got to wait till No1 son re appears to do it for me..The Brunello Rosso is fantastic and in direct sunlight changes from maroon to a deep ruby red.. wanted arctic green but glad I got this :D ..will get the photos up asap B)

Have a look on utube for Skoda Fabia Combi 11..Facelift 2010 its the Elelgance Estate in Rosso Red
