iPod Connection or SD Card?

Featured Replies

does it take sd cards ?

No it doesn't but the HU should be able to play mp3's unlike the autochanger which can't.

If you download the program from DanishViking here then the slowness of the Bolero with SD cards is totally sorted.

It comes down to:- Pay for an MDI connection + relevant lead + music player OR get an SD card (16gb = £18). One is certainly a lot cheaper (maybe 10x and more convenient) than the other and you don't have to keep plugging it in ;)

hopefully not too off topic but can you control the ipod and see the song names on the bolero when you use the mdi cable?

Life is too short to read that and the restaurant is summoning me!

When it comes to it, I think I'll tick the MDI box :D

For what it costs as a factory fit, especially with current VAT off options offer, I'd just get it and then it's there if you want to use it. Of course, you can still use an iPOD with the connector in the centre console. You just don' get the same functionality. I didn't spec. MDI because I don't have an MP3 but I do use the SD card and it's fine for my purposes. If I had an MP3/iPOD I would have specced MDI just to have it and may yet do a retrofit.

Sarge.

If you plan to use an ipod you definitely need get the MDI connection. The audio amplifier in the ipod is so bad there's a constant background hiss from music played through the jack plug connection from ipods while my iRiver and mobile phone are hiss free connected the same way. As I understand it, the MDI connection feeds the MP3 as data to the head unit where the much better amplifier in the head unit converts it to sound, eliminating the hiss.

You can indeed see the names of both song/artist & album (if the information is present) on the screen of the Bolero/Columbus using the MDI interface & Ipod connection.

cheers evening star :D

MacOS and Linux won't run that program emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Before anyone shouts... I know it's for Windows and I could run it on Linux or MacOS via Wine or a virtual machine running Windows etc. The point for me is that I shouldn't have to d!ck around with playlists etc. to make the Bolero useable, it should just work.

That takes nothing away from DanishViking who has shown real community spirit and helped the majority of users out as I suspect the majority of users on here run Windows
