Flapping sound at speed

Featured Replies

On driving home last night car developed a loud flapping sound when 80+ mph. Didn't stop on changing down gear:only when speed reduced. No evidence of tyre problem and nothing appearing loose under the bonnet....any ideas?

Have you looked underneath ,sometimes the plastic shield can come loose and with increased speed will flap about, other than that a bird on your roof! :giggle:

I presume your commute includes driving on private roads

Probably the under tray.

Have a look underneath the front of the car. Probably hanging down at the back..

have you looked for a white flag with a red cross....that may be flapping!!!

sorry couldn't resist.

definately the plastic undertray. I had the same thing happen several times. I got bored so I took it off :giggle:

Good work my friend.... Did you notice there wasn't even 1 of those there on Sunday.

Mind you they do serve a purpose I suppose. I prefer to think of them as retard indicators.

Thanks everyone - bird has now flown / flag needs some pep talk before coming back out!

I noticed something simular when driving home last Saturday night. It sounds like something flapping in the wind at the rear of the car. I thought I had caught a bag strap in the boot lid, but I hadn't. It happened again with the boot virtually empty on Friday. I will have to totally empty my car and see if it does it again.

P.S. I hate Football and therefore don't have silly flags sticking up! :p
