Dension Gateway five

Featured Replies

i have been looking around for an alternative ipod connector to the standard and came across this one.

Looks good as it also includes bluetooth mobile phone compatibility. inc iphone

It says its compatible with the RCD510(bolero?) and displays on maxidot

Shoud be relatively simple to fit.

£200 sounds good. I can see a group buy coming on!!!

Anyone got one or seen one in action

We are Dension dealers but given the problems with Gateway 100/300s with RNS510 units, we haven't tried one yet.

  • 4 months later...

I've put two GW5's into Audi A4's so far. The microphone setup is like the BTA1500, ugly and not easy to install with the clip provided.

On the first installation all went well, but when testing I ran into to issues with operation. No instructions on the required coding of the car, being an A4 I knew what should be coded with genuine kit, so I did that the functionality became available. But I had some issues with pairing, starting up the bluetooth etc. The unit was version 24, a quick look on the website and an upgrade to version 28 fixed the issues. Customer very happy.

The second installation went very smoothly and everything was working (except no phone connection) until I decided to update the firmware on that from 24 to 28. When completed the DIS displayed "NO MAG" and the CD changer dissappeared from the RNS-E system. The GW5 wasn't dead, it just wasn't seen anymore by the RNS-E and the DIS would not change. After some messing about resetting various things it eventually appeared in the DIS as "AUX GW" and showed a connected ipod, but no Audio from the Ipod, the phone connected OK and worked a treat, phonebook transferred etc and I even called Dension using it. But the RNS-E still shows no CD changer attached.

The symptoms are as follows.....

RNS-E shows no CD changer installed. (CD changer is greyed out)

All functions of Ipod are working but no Audio.

USB disk works fine again no Audio

Bluetooth works fine with sound, phonebook etc.

DIS will not change to radio, only shows the GW.

Just to be sure I tried another GW5 with the same wiring and at V24 it works and at V28 it stops, dissappears from the RNS-E.

Anyone had any further success with the Gateway 5 as it fulfills 2 of my requirements in one - ipod and BT handsfree connectivity.

I've got one. It's a bit disappointing.

iPod connectivity is good (although the sound quality is sometimes a bit random), but it always defaults to aux in and you have to re-select iPod. Which is annoying.

It also has a habit of connecting randomly to A2DP on my phone which makes my phone start playing music. I noticed this when I went in to pay for petrol with my phone in my pocket and realised it was playing music!

The Bluetooth is too quiet for some reason - It scares the life out of you when it rings and then you can barely hear the person on the other end.

The phone function also disappears from the Maxidot randomly and the unit needs resetting to bring it back.

I'm looking to change for a basic iPod connection (Dension if there are no other options) and VAG Bluetooth.

Cheers

Unless someone else posts something positive I'll cross it off the Christmas list then

I notice that according to Dension it isn't supposed to be compatible with an Octavia, but it does list the Golf etc as being compatible?????

This thread inspired me to see if there were any firmware updates available that might fix my issues.

There were!

However now the Phone menu is completely gone and won't come back with a reset or leaving the car for a few mins. My phone can't find any Bluetooth devices so it looks like it's not talking to the Bluetooth module.

Will see if it's there in the morning!
