Fuel tank range

Featured Replies

Having collect my wifes new 170 yesterday I noticed the low fuel warning light was on. So I filled up. The tank only took 40 litres and though the fuel gauge said it was full the trip computer gave a range of only 380 miles. I suspect the fuel consumption was poor because it was a new car and it will improve as the car beds in but what is the size of the tank and just what is the range of the Skoda superb.

I find that I always get 1000kms (600 miles) out of a tank and the tank would never take much more than 50 litres at a fill. The car always gives back 5l/100km (55mpg) or so and the car rarely gets to see a motorway so I can't complain.

The tank is 60 litres.

I have never managed to get more than 52 litres into the 60 litre tank - regardless of what the range remaining suggests I always seem to have 8-10 litres of fuel left in the tank.

Range is based on average consumption at that point so it may look like a fairly short range.

I'm averaging 53.2mpg as of today on my 140CR and filling up this morning took 42.6 litres in a tank showing less than 1/4 full and gave a range of 695 miles IIRC after filling it.

What strikes me as strange here is that the low fuel light is already showing with one-third of a tank or 20L still left in it. That can't be normal, surely?

We took the new car for a longer run over the weekend. Pooteling very gently down the motorway the range remaining in the tank steadily increased. It was rather odd to be driving along and seeing the miles remaining steadily increasing. Anyway at one point the range read 450 miles and the trip odeometer read 90 miles. This gave a potential range of 540 miles. Much better. I imagine that as the car beds in its fuel consumption will improve dramatically and we will see the range remain the same but allow a more enthusiastic drive.

Fuel tank range is crap...its about 15l smaller than my old Mondeo and althought a very fuel efficient car I feel i'm always bloody filing it up...

My PD140 DSG goes just over 500 miles on a full tank and thats simillar to my old octy PD140 manual which had a slightly smaller tank.

The tank size is fine for me, and on a recent very long distance motorway speed run I got from home to Malaga (spain) on 3.5 tanks of diesel.

Well, the Superb tank is 5 litres larger than my old Octy, however, I wish a long range tank (80-90 litres) was available as an option.

Yesterday, my Superb achieved 733 miles, equating to 57mpg. I filled the tank with 58.30 litres.

The range becomes especially problematic in TSI models. I have an average 500 km range on an full tank (10-13 l/km medium city consumption so far).

Jaysus, that is fair good, we get about 600 miles in my wife's Greenline, it's still low mileage so it may get better as it hit 10k.

On my MKII vRs TFSI, i get about 390 miles so i'm delighted with both returns.

Remapping at 3k miles transformed the car and I believe contributed to the current fuel consumption.

wow. This sounds like a World War II tank!
