Am I blowing off?

Featured Replies

Advice required from Evoms owners, or anyone in the know! I was out in the car earlier enjoying the weather with all the windows down fully accepting the dulcet tones emanating from my Evoms when I noticed a new noise, as I change gear I get an almighty whosssssssssssh!!!

Now coming from the Cossie generation and having had several cars with atmospheric dump valves I have to say that is what it sounded like. I am aware of problems with the earlier DV's and had planned to upgrade mine to the Rev' 4 in the next few weeks, but this aside, do you think I'm hearing a blown DV, or should the Evoms make that sound?

I get something similar now that my car has been remapped - if i give it the beans and then lift off about 3500-4000k the wastegate chatters like mad :giggle:

Is the sound definately coming from your intake?

Not sure mate, it's hard to pin point tbh. The Evoms makes a multitude of noises, but this definately sounds like an atomspheric DV.... :S

If the DV has split, I wonder what effect it will have on performance, I found a nasty flat spot the other day which I haven't noticed before.

Hmmmm... Best get it plugged in and some diagnostics done  although if there was a pressure leak or something surely it would no doubt trigger the engine management light :S

I had a little leak on my DV according to VCDS (and Awesome GTI when I had a service there), but didn't show an engine management light... I thought it would have done though!

I've just changed my induction system from a Carbonio to an Evoms. I'd also say that i now get a whole host of different noises

I can clearly hear the "suction" of the air being drawn in & there is a faint turbo like "whoosh" & "pffffssss" when you list off. I've checked all the unions and all feels tight, so I too am guessing it's just how it sounds. The latter is only really noticeable with the radio off etc.

Have to say it makes a major difference compared to the Carbonio. Seems much smoother and less hesitant now. However as I took the opportunity to drop in a set of NGK Iridium IX plugs at the same time, it's not fair to say! The old ones had done 51K and certainly looked like they would have coped for the recommended 60K, but what as the engine cover was coming of....

Out of interest, what did you use to "stick" the silver FSI Turbo trim to the Evoms cover & where on the back did you place it? I've still got that little job to do!

Trying to describe the noises does make me chuckle!

Thanks for ressurecting this thread and giving me some piece of mind.

On the subject of fitting the FSI cover, I tried a few different ideas but in the end I decided to bolt it on with a couple if of small M2 bolts. Just for info, make sure you fully remove the black parts that hold the OE cover on otherwise the Evoms cover will not sit fllush and rattle - which it really annoying!!

Lee.

Yeah, how do you describe a sound in text???? Made me have several goes trying to do it!

Yeah, I also found out about the "rattle"! You would really think that for the sort of money Evoms cost, they would offer a better install guide! Or at least an up to date one!! My kit had an all in one 90 degree bend and MAF connecter unlike the download of the fitting guide which said thy were in two pieces!

I've tried very heavy duty number plate tape to hold the cover on, but don't hold out much hope! So i might be following you on the "bolts"!

I assume that you are still experiencing the "sounds", but that you are more convinced this is "normal"?

lee i see in your sig you have a Blueflame decat down. Did you ever get it fitted?

Mine was the same, a one piece 90 degree pipe, tbh I prefer it. I have to say, I had extreme fun with the stupid clips around the turbo pipe, ended up using mini sash cramps, but when it finally came off the whole lot smacked me in the forehead, still got the scar............ :swear:

I tried the number plate tape, grippa fill etc, I think the problem is the profile of the cover as it sits about 5mm off the engine cover making adhesion a problem, I would definately recommend the bolt option, I have attached a couple of pictures to show it still looks good fitted this way.

The sounds are coming thick and fast, but thanks to yourself, and other members both on here and the MKV GTi forums I am now content.

Sorry mate, I ordered the thing, but after 3 weeks waiting I ended up cancelling, after discussing the matter with other members on here and the MK5 GTi forums I am going down a different route. My mechanic is having the car next week and for a small fee he is removing the DP, hammering out the 'pre-cat' filter, re-fitting and running an emissions test, this isn't going to achieve the same result as fitting a 3" decat or even a DP with sport cat, but it should relieve a lot of back pressure allowing the turbo to spool quicker and maybe prelonging its life!

We will see the end result, but I may re-order the Blue Flame again later in the year.

By the way, I have tried removing it from my signature, but when I try to save the changes, it says my added image is to big!!! Which it isn't!....................
