RIGHT!!!!!!

Having owned several Audi quattro's ( 80 and 90 saloons ), and the 2wd 90 and coupe....

I can say that 4wd is a must for traction off the line, out of slow

corners.. it also cossets the driver more. and is a must in bad weather,,, but in the dry it can be a handicap, a 2wd version of the same car can usually out handle the 4wd, due to the extra

weight and drag of 4 wheels been driven... This applys up to about 250Bhp for FWD vx 4WD, above this the limitations of FWD

show up...

I would have considered a 4x4 IF it had come in vRS trim and with

at least a 210bhp.. engine... but Skoda decided not to make it...

Ecklad, you can get more power through the front wheels if its set upi right!

Yes, but the result would be a 147 GTA type of car - just truckloads of understeer.

Unless you get a torsen front diff

I disagree, one of my sales guys runs an ITR and he cannot get anywhere near me?

Yes, but that's simply because your car has more oomph.

Or were you talking about the twisty bits?

the twisty's ;) oh and i can out run 4x4s as well.. as SiHorton /Gossy / Ian

And if you swap cars?

now thats naughty...;)

but Ian was close to my lap times after his 3rd outing at anglesey in my car...

Oh come on, admit it! You are by far the better driver! You'd thrash all of them when handed one of their 4WDs set up against your own car! :D

dunno persuade col to lend me his 4x4.. with kw... i will put my wheels on and see if it laps faster?

Would be a nice experiment, I agree! Col's 4x4 would come close to your set-up, so no comparing apples and pears there.

I don't know what I would want as a result, though, if I were in your shoes. If you are faster in Colin's car, then you would know you are a better driver. If you're not, then you have the better motor but your driving wouldn't be all that special - it'd be all down to the superior FWD RS. :D

I think I'd prefer to be the better driver myself... ;)

Anyway, why not organize such a thing for the next Briskoda meet? If you'd all swap cars around, try your best in each and compare the times, you have an honest comparison of the cars' capabilities.

Excellent idea!

Right, who do I get to swap with? :D

Rob.

Jon - obviously a 1.4 is the closest match to your car.

Nah, just swap wheels Rob. Far more entertaining.

Swap them for anything in particular? :D

Was going to try Paul's 17s to see if it really did destroy performance as I'd expect it to, but they were sold too quick... :(

Rob.

I was thinking of the other way round. Stick yours on Paul/Jon/Des's car and see how they got on. :D

they wont go over the brakes... 16" min.....

if 17" destroys performance.. then my 18"s must make mine really slow?

Woah there...for a sec it looks like you forgot mine's a standard 1.6... :p

Rob.

18"s must make mine really slow

Many a true word etc etc ;)

:D

thats why im running the experimental 17 3/4" rear

I think there is no definitive answer, it depends very much on the roads and conditions.

and if there was an answer would we want to know...?

would kill all the debate...;)
