Fwd Or 4x4?

Featured Replies

Its the usual problem - or should that be we're spoilt for choice - 4x4 with standard looks and interior but lots of potential if you are going for more power ? OR vRS with nice interior, brakes and suspension but not as good if you want over 220bhp and no wheelspin !

Compared with pretty much every other family car I test drove

or have driven, it handles like a race car! And is better value

for money... :D

I know. I drove one recently and was scared to death! :D;)

LOL...ah, but it's dead fun flooring the throttle half way round a corner and letting the

front end slide outwards... :D

Rob.

... and then you pull the handbrake, don't you? :D

Dead fun, ay? I'm sure the second will apply to you. The first is more appropriate to me...

Oh, dear God no...the handbrake isn't there to be used when the car's moving -

knackers the brakes! And makes that awful beeping noise... :D

How would you know? :D

Errrrr...someone told me...

:D

Rob.

But it is an awful noise, isn't it?

Almost as bad as the seatbelt warning chime... :D

Rob.

Oh no, don't start me on that!

My first thought on delivery was, "Oh my God! They've handed me a Swedish car!"

But, erm, let's get back on topic again... ;)

Hmmm - obviously sometimes it's good to have a slightly older car - mine has the annoying beep on the fuel light, and a continuous beep to warn of the lights being left on, but no handbrake or seatbelt noises, thankfully :D

Is it an RS thing cause mine (March 2003) doesn't beep on hanbrake.

As for

LOL...ah, but it's dead fun flooring the throttle half way round a corner and letting the

I'd just add, wouldn't you rather have the rear end slide outwards? Just disable ESP (for the 4x4) and presto :) (Grin factor 100!)

Otheos, I think Rob forgot to place an irony smiley there...

Even when you are moving when you apply it? Or move with

it applied?

Mine is a 1.6 Ambiente and it does it, and Ian's 4x4 does it too.

Maybe it's a UK thing, or just a feature you haven't discovered

yet.... :D

Yes I would, but it's not going to happen. Unless I fit really

big grippy tyres to the front and some skinny crossplys to the

back...hmmm, now there's a thought... ;)

Rob.

 Mine beeps! I think the beep is for when you apply it whilst moving (not that I ever do, of course). If someone can pull away from lights with the handbrake on, and NOT feel it, something's wrong! Although I have tried to pull away from light in neutral before - You get a lot of noise, and not a lot of acceleration. :D

It's annoying cos with the handbrake on the first click (ie pads not touching discs) I can play at having an RS, with wheelspin and torque steer, as it disables drive to the rear wheels.

(sits back and awaits abuse ;))

:D

I see no problems with that, Colin! :D

If its not damaging anything, but the tread on your front tyres, then go for it. I'd suggest turning up the volume on the steroe to drown out the "BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!" :speaker:

Suspect it might be doing something to the rear brakes, Jason.

Sorry, Paul, but I only have time to read a small percentage of yours (ie about 1% on a good day) because of the sheer volume of them! rolleyes.gif

BTW, do you need to correct your declared location?
