This is what the new VRS is capable of

Ok IMO its not the best looking car but you have the same gearbox, running gear and engine as me. Thought you may be interested in my weekends performance if you are thinking of going mk2 VRS route.

Thought i'd share my weekends exploits with you as I had a lot of fun!

I made the trip down to GTi International on Sunday to enjoy the great weather and nice cars. I knew Revo were going to be there and were doing some special offers. Turns out it was £100 off the RRP of the remap and a free select + box (plugs in to the Diagnostic port and can be used for switching between standard and different fuel quality settings). Since I run mine on V-Power at all times I got the map turned up to full which is around 225BHP (another rolling road session next month). But real world figures are what counts and turns out these cars with no back seats or spare wheel are a bit of a weapon.

Best results of the day was a 5.1seconds to 60 and a standing quarter mile of 13.9. Pretty impressive as that was a better time than some Porches and a Focus RS etc. (I’ll post my time sheet later).

Some of the cars I saw off on the actual strip was an EP3 CTR (about 4 car lengths as we carried on accelerating past the quarter mile end point).

That's a SEAT. I've found some vids on YouTube of the new vRS. (although could be 1.2TSI DSG, I'm not sure)

Yeah mate i'm aware its a seat as I was driving it :D

What I was showing you is the potential performance of the VRS since its pretty much the same car. I used to have a Fabia VRS so thought i'd post to give you guys a heads up that its gonna be a decent little car when mapped.

Yes you are right, the SEAT is not the best looking car around... so buy the Fabia instead

What did you think of it in standard form before you mapped it?

Got the car mapped on Sunday. Car is on 10k miles now, just about to go for first service.

I was very impressed with the standard car, more so with the back seats and spare alloy taken out (you'd be surprised how much the rear bench actually weighs!).

She handles a lot better than my Fabia or Cupra Tdi ever did in standard form.

I have also changed to coilovers and whiteline rear ARB, its in a different league now!

The results are in from the Sunday which can be viewed on www.theresults.co.uk. I had two separate timesheets Mark Donkin and James Dennell (my mate). There was a mix up at the booth as who's run when againt whos name on the same car. The 5.17 under his name is me as his run went on my stats (he did a 5.7 in my car first time ever diving it!!). 5 Porches ran and I was faster to 60 and down the quarter than 4 of them!

I was asked a question in a PM so i'll post the answer here for those of you interesting in tuning and the DSG.

The software is well within the safe limits of the DSG even though its running on the highest setting. Around 225BHP and under 300Nm of torque. I had mine on the rolling road at Awesome Gti before the map and the standard car was running 195BHP and 280Nm which is well over the stock book figures.

Comparing my map to the revo map my standard peak torque is when the supercharger kicks in. All the revo software does is hold this peak torque + a little bit more, right through the rev range rather than tailing off rapidly. I makes a huge difference when the car comes on boost via the turbo rather than the charger and pulls to the red line instead of running out of puff around 5.4k rpm. You can see in the video of the mk3 Cupra v me that he gets a better start but when my boost kicks in I’m away.

Revo’s test car was a white cupra and had been supplied to them by Seat UK so they could test all the safe tolerances. It was badged up as a cupra rt215 (revo tuned 215BHP) and may go on sale as a dealership tuned special addition. I know some Skoda garages offer revo. I know my Seat one does and they are confident in Revo's abilities.

Future planned mods are black roof, seat sport skirts, blueflame exhaust and forge intake system. When the map it tweaked she’ll be running 235ish and should run in the 4’s to 60 :D

Hope this is of some use. Any questions PM me. You’ll love the car! I’ve managed a crazy 500miles from a vented tank. My usual is 390 to 450 with normal driving.

Thats a very quick 0-60. Is that purely because of how the DSG box does not let off the power during changes (or does so only for a split second?)

I got 5.96 best 0-60 but I was struggling with grip off the line, and also had to make 2 (manual :D) gearchanges.

DSG certainly helps! I can't build the rev's like you can on a manual so it bogs down slightly off the line. You can see that in some of the vids. The car must have only weighed 1090kg odd with the seats and spare out. The gear changes are crazy quick, the overall quarter mile time is still good, can’t believe how much better it pulls at higher speeds, would imagine the car will have a higher top speed now, not that I will ever use it.

Well, I think mine possibly has a stronger top end as although it took me 0.9 longer to 60 I was only 0.1 behind over the line. :)

Would be interested if you could scan on your print of the 0-60/1/4 mile as the graph plotting the 0-60 will show the difference the DSG makes (I have put my one in the fabia 1 section)

No worries i'll put it up tonight. Its basicly a strait line :D

You will be better top end. My car is running 220BHP, are you around 260BHP?

Here is one I had on my iphone. I'll post the otherone when I get home.

David Cook motors in Oldham are a seat dealer, they are also Revo dealers, and they will deffo sell you a remapped brand new seat coz I priced one up with them a while ago.

Thats where i'm taking my car next week ;)

Mardon thanks for posting all this up, it's really useful to read especially for us Mk1 VRS owners looking at what the new 1.4 DSG cars can do.

  • Author

Not a problem mate, I didn't do it to show off I did it because I spent a long time "erming and aahing" over the mk5 ibiza and the 1.4 TSI DSG combo and then the worries of DSG torque limits etc so thought i'd be able to help some people out. I used to have a Fabia VRS and loved it so thought i'd give you guys a heads up.

I'll post a little more info on current fuel consumption with the map on, I'll be doing more miles next week so can give a more accurate impression.

I leave my house on the 40 mile town and motorway commute at 6am so the traffic is very light so can get pretty consistent MPG figures.

Usually manage around 44-47mpg. I got 45.7mpg today so I’m happy. Since the most drastic changes to the cars drive is when the turbo comes on boost when on the motorway at 60/70mph the rev’s are usually around 2/2.5k so economy is not really affected. Throttle response is much nicer, and if I’m doing 60 and need to nip to 70 to overtake the car seems to do it quicker and with less effort so you spend more time cruising back down to 60.

CAUTION.. It does drink A LOT more when you boot it, and you have to really watch your speed as it will get to licence loosing speeds without you realising. Thats the good thing about Revo, you can always switch it back to normal when you want.

That is good! Here's mine for comparison - gearchanges much more obvious! You can see if I kept the same straight line from where I went to 2nd, I would have been around 5 seconds as well. Kind of key to me mastering 2nd gear launches with my car.....

Oh yeah I see what you mean! Which was faster, yours or the dirty read mk4 'biza?

I got faster 1/4 mile than Tspark but I noticed he had a better 0-60. I suspect he hooked up a 2nd gear start whereas I didn't.....

Need to find an empty carpark to practise in. ;)

Your clutch will thank you for it!! :D

I did look out for you but didn't spot you :(

Saw this on Saxp and mighty impressed. Got a friend looking at one of these now!

Just seen the weight thing. I wish I could get mine down to 1100kg odd. :( I strip mine out as far as I can go, but I still think it is about 1200kg.

Great thread. I quite like the Mk5, but prefer the mk4 facelift.
