Anti Judder?

Featured Replies

Hi people,

so heres my problem. basically, when my Fab vRS is warm, it likes to judder under light acceleration in 5th or 6th gear. i have had the turbo, clutch, flywheel, release bearing and water pump replaced under the cars now expired warranty thinking that these items may have been causing the problem, to no avail. i have swapped the front wheels to the rear, and replaced 2 tyres and it still does it....

is there such a thing as an 'anti judder' sensor? i am normally in 5th gear at around 50 mph and i'll go into 6th at around 60 - 65 mph. the car has only got 36k miles on it.. also, the cambelt has been done too.

this aint driver error is it?

its got me proper puzzled...

any ideas, remedies, fixes or info on the problem ive got would be Grrrrrr-eat!

thanks in advance, much love.

If the juddering stops when you accelerate harder,.suspect EGR valve, or fuel system fault.

you've done well getting all those expensive items under warranty, obviously the dealer couldnt work it out either then?

bad fuel?

fuel filter? sludge in tank?

injector issue?

what year is it?

blt stutter??

Thanks for the replies guys...

MarkMac - i used to work at VW and bought the car there (it was a trade in) so i got warranty with it - what can i say, I have known the workshop controller for years (i was his best man!)

Banana Tobacco - its a 2005 54 plate. the main tech at VW struggled with it, as he came out with me with the VW diagnostic machine plugged into it, and he experienced the judder and from the machine he could tell that i was only tickling the throttle. trouble is, they cant get to the problem because the machine they use is for working on VW electrics and codes - not Skoda. its had a new fuel filter fitted too...

...and i dont know what BLT stutter is ( a BLT to me is a sarnie...!)

MoggyTech - i think the EGR valve has been looked at and thoroughly cleaned too...

blt is the engine code, later models suffer a stutter around 1800 rpm its to do with euro 4 emissions regs

your car will be asz engine code and wont have that issue....

strange...

have you had the map and maf sensors checkd??

i havent mate.

i suppose thats a job for the technician again?

something i can do at home, or does it need pluggin into a Skoda Diagnostic machine for that...?

blt stutter effects at about 2000rpm but is more of a slight hesitation rather than a judder...

the judder IS at low revs.. sorry, forgot to mention that.(around 1500-2000 rpm) i can accelerate out of it by putting my foor down, but on economy drives, its not what i want to be doing.

moggys the tech expert so if any1 can solve it he 's norm the one..

righty - ho then.

i bet a replacement EGR valve aint cheap either, eh?

has the vw tech not suggested the engine mounts or dogbone mount...not much else to try is there..

thats why i'm proper scratchin my noggin.

i will ask him to will try the EGR valve and see where he gets with it.

i would have thought if it was engine mounts, it'd do it all the time?

new egr on ebay bout £80....not sure what could be faulty on the egr to cause a judder..unless the plunger is stuck allowing the inert exhaust gases in more than it should...

aye but certain things sometimes only cause vibrations/judders at certain revs..bit like wheels out of balance..they dont judder at all speeds..just certain speeds...

hmmmm.... this is sounding like its gonna cost. (as you can see, i've paid 'nowt so far for the work doing, and i'm a Yorkshire man, so i'm tight!)

will see if my mate can wangle an EGR valve for me..

fair do's. i'll ask him to check this out too for me - thanks for the tip!

Petrol 16V 100HP the same.

EGR only operates below 2000 RPM. Stutter effect worse when the vacuum advance is operating i.e. uphill.

Mine had a monumental stutter until the dealer cleaned out the orfices. Now its only slight and i have been told that I will need a new EGR valve eventually.

Nick

Im Going with the EGR also, It's probably well gunged up & not reacting as quick as it should causing the fault at low Rpm/load where it functions..

Assuming it is seating properly when closed !! You could try a cheap test & disconnect the vacuum hose that operates it, Block the Hose off, The egr is now closed , So go for a drive & see if it still stutters .....

reason i didnt think was egr as he said his was a judder as opposed to a stutter/hesitation...

no hesitation, just a judder!

Morning guys, the only judder/stutter I know of is the one when you turn the car off when you have the egr pipe deleted and take the anti shudder pipe off. By the way I have my old egr pioe if you would like that, its done about 90k and is off and 04 reg so will be the same pipe you need for yours. I replaced it with the egr delete bt the egr was working perfectly before. Pm if you require it mate

Elliott

his prob is when in 5th/6th gear not when turning engine off..

cheers Elliott, kind of you to offer. as warwick hunt says however, its juddering in 5th / 6th gear. i phoned my pal up today who works at VW and he says a new EGR valve is around 300 notes! is that right? bloody hell, its expensive! anyhoos, he's gonna try wangle one for me i think...

will keep you posted.
