I've had none of the faults and specifically bought it for the space it has in a small package... perhaps some people thought they were getting a big van (sorry, Berlingo) instead? :wonder:

And the Roomster evolved from........... *COUGH*

The Skoda Praktik. A Van!

I think that it evolved from a concept car.

Its true that it is also sold as a van over there, but whereas the Berlingo is clearly designed first as a van, then as a car, the Roomie was the other way round (hardly panel van behind the front doors, is it?), rather like the van versions of stuff like the Corsa and Astra which give away their car base from their looks along the side... look at the Berlingo MPV and then the van and you'll see what I mean.

The Roomy:

Great value and a unique vehicle. The French cars don't corner to well.

noisy brakes? the only noises i get from mine are a little bit of grinding noise on the first brake after a damp night as it clears the film of rust of the disks

engine problems? i would love to see that broken down a little more into engine version, 1.2 petrol? 1.9 tdi etc then you may find a single engine type has skewed the result

the inside is a bit plastic (lots of the hard grey stuff) but the built quality is good, no rattles, squeaks etc in 120k miles

the thing that puzzles me is the roomster came 81st and the fabia came 5th ??? they are to all purposes the same damn car, common engines and front running gear, how can the rear seat and boot make that much difference?

what i don't understand is the low interior / exterior marks, if you dislike the inside / outside that much why buy the car in the first place?

peter

ludicrous interpretation....

top mpv gets 81% satisfaction and 5 stars..... roomie gets 77% !

not a lot of difference. great for us - will keep the prices down and keep 'em special. I'd hate it if I knew someone else with one

Whatcar are involved, which means it is bull****!

It's all about perception and that's what Skoda has riden on for years now. People expected them to be ****e so when they turned out not to be it's mucho brownie points. Thing is... the bubble has burst a bit and the expectations are going up. Demographics the Roomster is aimed at have different expectations and this is reflected in these survey results.

Proof of this is the Kia Cee'd...

Stay away from surveys. They will just make you annoyed for no good reason.

you mean people only think they are great because they used to have a wheelbarrow before? :giggle:

Kinda yeah...

The expectations would not have been high for the budget model but what people got surprised them. When you actually compare it to a lot of competition it's.... average at best but because people expected worse it's suddenly a great sucess story.

I find the Roomy a more practical load carrier than the old model Berlingo thanks to the Roomy's removable rear seats and fully reclinable passenger seat.

The new model Berlingo has removable rear seats, but it is a much bigger vehicle than the Roomy.

All true, but it doesn't explain why the Fabia is 5th and the Roomster so low; especially when I consider the Roomster to be a better car overall.

The problem for the magazines is where to put it... I've seen comparison tests with much larger MPVs, the Van based cars and even the Mini MPVs like the Meriva... trouble is it doesn't fit comfortably into any of them... its too small to be directly compared with the likes of the Zafira, again much smaller than the vans, and, conversly much larger than the mini-MPVs... That leads to confussion from the buyer and ending up with commennts about lack of space when they were expecting a van!

Personally I see it as a stand alone vehicle with all the benefits/internal size of a medium sized estate car (Golf/Focus/Astra sized), the benefits of the MPV sector (much more flexible seating than estate cars) and with the "footprint" of a Mini MPV/Supermini...

Though I do share your concern about how low it is... surely comments about interior space can't carry that much weight?!

as I said previously, it is irrelevant when the range is in tenths of percentages. They are ALL pretty good if they are getting 70-80%!

but Roomster owners are picky as they have made a real decision to go for something so odd.

Fabia owners are more likely to include your standard retirement fodder like Kia owners, (that isnt meant to be a disrepectful point) just because the car is more bland and euroboxy.

Picky. Retirement .... LOL. There are areas that could be improved - mostly due to accountants doing a cost cutting job. There are no vehicles that do everything so its a compromise, the problems that this car has is Skoda UK cutting out functions and not telling anyone, even some of there own technicians don't know the answers. The Scout is my wife's car and I am just the driver/mechanic, now if she is happy then someone has been fiddling the figures. Not a lot changes...... LOL

Its run in now..... 750 Miles per tank... Do I give a $$$$$$$ about percentages.... Actually you got it right when you said it will keep the prices down, supply and demand rules.
