You cant tell by looking, ask them what oil they used, if it's not the correct VW spec then get a £50 reduction and do it yourself.

Fully synthetic oil and unipart parts apparently.

I can check the parts once I get the car, but I have to take this word for it on the oil.

Ok. Heard back from the AA man.....he was very impressed with the car. All ok. It's had a new boot lid, bumper and rear wing, but nothing structural and all work has been carried out to professional standards.

The only thing he could find was the AC didn't seem to work. He said, that could be the gas, or it could be a bigger job. The chances are, its been unused for so long, it just needs filling.

To be honest, If that's the only thing wrong, then I'm happy. I've already squeezed the garage to his limit, so he's not going to budge.

The way I see it is, its an optional repair. If the gas refil works, then its a bonus. If not, well then I've already been driving a car without AC for 8 years, another few won't hurt! I'll get it looked at at the next service when I've got some more money!

I know the worst case scenario is about £500, give or take.

Any views on the AC, or lack of? Am I going about it the right way?

Thanks

Is this still for sale? How much is the road tax per year?

I'm just waiting for my insurance company to cough up some readies, then I'll be looking for a car, and I'm DESPERATE to get into the Skoda family!!!

Yes it is still for sale.

The tax is £150 PA and is taxed until the end of March 2011.

Wow, That was quick!

Think I'll be making a phone call to my insurance company tomorrow to see what the delay is. I may be in touch soon...

Nice car....shame it's not an elegance.

I was initially looking for an Elegance as I was coming out of an Octavia Elegance and wanted the same spec or higher in a Superb - I then found out the Comfort spec Superb has a higher spec than the Octavia Elegance , the only thing I 'lost' was the sunroof - which I hardly ever opened and in the 3 1/2 years I can honestly say I have not missed it one bit, so much so I decided against the sunroof for my new Superb Combi.

Still 'negotiating' with the insurance company regarding a settlement valuation on the old car... Still interested in this though.

Do you have any more photos you could post or send through to me - as you'll appreciate, it's a long way to come for a viewing (especially on the train...).

Looks lovely.

Once I've heard back from my insurer, I'll be in touch.

When do you need to have this sold by? What's the delivery date for the replacement?

  • Author

Thanks, IMO it is a very clean car (bearing in mind it's 6 1/2 years old).

I've given up trying to speculate that one!!

It is due to be built next week, so I will probably have the new car in around 4 weeks???

It can however go sooner if need be as I have been offered the use of my step son's car for a few weeks.

Gizmo,

I have spent most of the morning on the phone to my insurance company as I am really not very happy with the valuation they have offered on my last car. They are going to 'review' the offer, but have warned that this will take until the middle of next week - just so you are aware. I am interested, but currently I'm having to drag my heels waiting on the insurance company. Also, if they do not up their offer, then I will struggle to make you a sensible offer. But I'll keep you posted.

New photos are appreciated, thanks. Looks lovely.
