Hi wagon got your pm with your contact details, will contact you next week when im a bit better,we will do some logs and hopefully see where the problem lies,as said without doing logs,it is all guess work, having been a mechanic for 20 years now,i never like the guessing game.

Me neither, the guessing game can be expensive and thats why i took it to Star Performance but tbo its no better and im out of pocket.According to him the maps ok but who knows. :no:Its so fustrating because i know it should be alot faster. Cheers for the help and look forward to your comments.

Well ive just had the car vagcom'ed and no faults come up.When doing a log :giggle: it says that the car is producing too much boost? I will post the plot up when its emailed to me by the very helpful fellow member  Cheers graham.

Your actual boost is all over the place. It doesn't go as high as 20 psi (about 16.5psi) but is up and down like a yo-yo after it passes the requested boost at 3440 revs. It should spike a bit higher than the requested boost but then tail off and almost follow the requested boost at higher revs. I graphed the data but can't post it on photobucket at the moment. Did Star performance fix the "small boost leak" they found or just replace the N75 and that was it?

Hi chicken_eyebrow,it was myself that done the logs for wagonwheels,i did notice the actual boost as all over the place, confirmed by the boost gauge in the car, quite a lot of the time the actual boost was more than the requested, which would take me away from saying the car had a boost leak, also the fuel trims were ok,usually if there,s a boost leak the fuel trims are out, also at no point was it pulling the timing back, the only thing that bothered me was the n75 duty cycle was at 100% at one point, the only thing that crossed my mind could be wrong with he car is a faulty wastegate actuator, diafram in it might be gettng weak, the other possibillty is someone has been tampering with it adjusting the lenght, wagonwheels hasnt long got the car,he bought it off a guy on here michael balai i think,it could still turn out to be a map fault, seemingly was custom remapped.

Could be the wastegate actuator or the rod I suppose, does the rod have any clean threads showing, i.e does it look like someone has changed the position of the nut to make the rod open the wastegate later? That would explain it overboosting.

Not sure how easy it is to check the operation of the actuator, can you take the vac hose off of it that usually goes to the N75 and apply a vacuum to the hose (with engine off), and see if the wastegate opens fully or sticks?

Time was getting on last nite so never popped my head down the back of the engine to have a look at the actuator rod to see if someone has been tampering with it,yeah you could test the actuaor with a vacumn/pressure pump,to see if its moving freely, really about the only thing left to do before i would say it,s a map fault.

Hi guys, thanks for all the help on here. The cars booked into a vag guru @ Autotechnik next thursday for a session of fault finding.Might take the map off it and start from there. Most "specialists" i spoke to didnt want to touch it

Hi wagonwheels isn't autotechnic away down south?there is a couple of things left to try to rule them out,I would like to try them before you take it somewhere and get charged £100s.I would like to confirm there isn't a boost leak, and test the wastage actuator.

they have a new garage in rosyth now.Its going on thursday.Happy to bring it round again if you like but i dont want to waste your evenings

Ok just heard bake from Autotechnik. With the front end removed  they found that where the MAP sensor fits onto the boost pipe was held in part by duck tape and the mount was leaking :( Going to order the correct pipe fitting kit from forge and hopefully sort it properly. They also asked if i would like an Oettinger map with "tweaks"? not sure and depends it it makes it faster and money permitting.

Well finally got my octy back.New Forge boost hose to intercooler to hold the MAP sensor. That solved the air leak but its still surging. The garage took days fault finding using Vag fault finding(linked up to germany) .After loads of test and checking everything it looks like either theres a fault with the software fitted when chipped but more likely the ECU looks corrupt :'( .Its picking up a fault within the ecu? something to do with the brake ecu cutting the boost because it thinks the cars about to wheelspin? (ABS/ASR error memory 0522 CAN message)

New ECU comes in at £637.23 but that ecu would need remapped too  :'( .Getting bloody expensive....

Edited by wagonwheels

Any boost issues now you have the new hose?

I think I would torch it mate :S I'm sure you can get an ECU cheaper than that second hand.

Ecu's are around but each ecu is coded and unless i can find one with the imobiliser deactivated then im goosed cos it wont work when put in my car .Its really testing my patience but i love the car which makes it worse as i would just move it on otherwise.I would really recomend autotechnik, they kept me up to date with everything and tried to explain to me what was going on and why.Cant say i followed everything but at least they know what they're on about.Better than being charged £180 for nothing.....ie Star :wonder:

but you can get them re-coded

but you can get them re-coded

I didnt know that! Ill get on the old fleebay now and have a wee look

You might want to double check that you can recode them before buying one on my word though :dull:

Oh i see :giggle: something to look into at least, cheers guys

You might want to give Ben at Shark Performance a ring. He knows a lot about ecu's!

There's a guy called Chris Hughes (Total Tuning) in Pontypridd Sth Wales who repairs ECU's for the trade. What he doesn't know abour ECU's isn't worth knowing. Been a while since I've spoken to him. PM me if you want his number.. He did a postal service & normally charged about £175ish for ECU repair.

Thats great news thanks.Ive used the "ECU DOCTOR" before and he's been good but he's more about water damage and board repair not software issues....unless thats what mine is.Anyone heard of this prob before?

ECUs don't just go "corrupt" and if they do, the car won't start or you'll get a checksum fault in VCDS.

I have two or three ECUs that are the same as yours in stock, I could always kill the immobiliser on one of them and send one up for you to test?

The problem with trying to fault find with a map on is that the map can be making it do alsorts of things. Having said that if the car isn't standard then it can do alsorts of things without a map on..

Are you 100% sure that the garage have found all the boost leaks? We use a smoke tester to pressurise the system, do you know if they did the same thing?
