3rd service @20k miles.. what needs doing

Featured Replies

cheap service by friendly dealer in Ferring - W Sx Motors - £94.

But nothing done except oil/filter, and I note that air filter not recommended in service book until 60,000 kilometres!

Does anyone advise doing one anyway after 3 years??

And should it have a diesel filter change by now? (TDi 1.4)

i change mine every 10k with the oil filter and oil (do it myself)

also change the pollen filter spring each year and fuel filter every 20k

would rather spend the tenner than chuck out black smoke

can't be doing to much wrong, nearly at 120k miles, so warranty and lacking a dealer stamped service book is the least of my worries for resale value

ok - will go to motor factor (uless Skoda is cheaper?) I presume I have no pollen filter if I haven't got any aircon?

Is the fuel filter easy on the 3 pot diesel?

I wouldnt be using the dealer after the 36months is up - but its convenient getting them to replace bits for warranty until then!

SWIMBO's 1995 Corsa hasn't got air con but has a pollen filter ;)

K&N Product Information for 33-2830 This filter will last the life of your Roomy, sounds good too. £30-£40

Pollen Filter http://www.puravent....=595∂=M2168 Think the thing is under the dash? £23 If you hate smells its a good idea to source a good quality product.

Diesel filter < £10

Should always check filters, especially the Air Filter, can really knock the performance.

Diesel filter, depends on the way the vehicle is used, if daily and good mileage and quality assured diesel then it should last a long time, personally I would change it every three years. Not worth worrying about at a tenner.

£90 is not a bad price I always counted on £500 when the Honda went in plus MOT as well, but that was only to keep a dealer service record. I would run the vehicle for 1000 miles then put my brand of oil in. But I'm a fussy old boy.

Hopes this helps

to be honest, i have compared the price between halfords and skoda, no real difference so tend to use genuine skoda

getting the top of the oil filter can be fun as well, i use a 15" adjustable spanner on the moulded nut on the top, and don't forget to replace the "o" ring on the cover that comes in the box

pollen filter is below / behind the glove box

get into the passenger foot well, look up under the glove box,

carefully remove the polystyrene cover,

then you will see the housing for the pollen filter towards the centre console,

you need to slide the two clips (can't remember which way towards middle / outside) and the bottom piece pulls down

you then slide the frame with the filter down / out (note which side the filter is, if you foget the dirty side of the filter goes towards the passenger door)

remove the filter from the frame and replace with the new one

putting it back is the reverse, but getting the cover back on the filter housing and sliding the clips into place properly can be a real pain in the rear

I think I'm going to go for a pipercross air filter which doesn't have any oil issues, and can be washed out.

Any thoughts?

Only used KN. Did about 50k and it just needed a bash and hover. In fact they seem to get better has the mileage mounts never had any problems.

Really depends on you at the end of the day.

Both will give a boost to air intake.

Been using a green filter for about 5 years now. First in the VRS and now the same one in the Roomy. I clean it out every 2-3 months, wash it and oil it.

As for fuel filter you don't need to replace until 40k or probably until it fails. It won't make any difference to anything until it fails (As the system will maintain the required flow and pressure until it's can't anymore and the filter fails) and you will notice that as a "missing" effect. You can get one from the motor factors for about £17 and they are about the same price from OEM
