6 Pot Brakes?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there are any kits available that would be a direct replacement fir the vrs callipers?

I'd like to keep the standard discs but reduce the unsprung weight as the standard calipers are big heavy buggers!

Wilwood, wp pro, brembo, tarox etc?

Think Awesome GTi do a Tarox six pot with 312 disc, about £900 though.

Just go for the Compbrake 6 pot kit that comes with 335mm discs.

as above without a doubt

just looked at the compbrake kits they are 330mm disc listed or am i missing something?

edit found them not cheap :wonder:

I just mean a caliper kit to use with oe discs a bit like the hi spec mini kits

COMPBRAKE 6 pot 335mm.

there was a lad who had them on and the golf setup is the 330mm ones but the lad on here was the first to get them iirc and he made them change to 335 as the 330 were not big enough.

Ill try fing the link to it

Why not go for the 4 pot Brembo's off a Seat Leon Cupra R??

Excellent link! Exactly what I would do with my octy if I could find some super legs!

They do look particularly good

6 pots comp brakes are great, dont have as much initial bite as the 4 pot brembos though!

what do you mean?

I spose just for road use and not hard road use you wont need these. Personally I only want them on my car to say I have them and look ACE and powerfull lol. Ill prob never use them that hard ne way. on my drive to work from Cardiff to Bristol I prob only use my brakes twice lol, even coming up to lights i dont really need them. once going onto the M32 and again to stop in the carpark lol. thats it on a good day.

dont you need spacers tho with the Brembos? with std spiders.

the comp brakes have awesome power (as do the brembos) and have awesome high speed stopping power and dont fade however at lower speeds the 4 pots work quicker if that makes sense (bite faster) than the 6 pots due to the master cylinder having to work less on the 4 pots.

At normal speeds the 4 pots feel like the standard brakes, its at high speed or prolongled braking that the 4 or pots come into their own.

Make sense?

yea lol, so really for me lol, std is better lol. but they dont look as good as the Compbrakes lol

Perfect sence! I upgraded the brakes on my old saxo VTS to Hi Specx 4 pots and there was more pedal travel due to the amount of fluid the calipers take to work.

One solution was to use a larger MC from something like a 406 or 306 HDI

Is there a suitable upgrade for the standard MC set up on the octy?

when i asked this question the std spiders apparently clear the caliper just fine

that is a good question

To add the sweedish's info;

I've upgraded to CompBrake 6pots with 330mm discs from a "big" 4 pot brembo setup (based on DB7 front discs).

I've also driven sweedish's car with his "small" 4 pot brembo setup.

My "big" brembo were simply to heavy and cause issues with ESP, also due to the large piston size, they were quite soft at low speed (i.e. like oem).

I then upgraded to the CompBrakes. Much much lighter. 1Kg lighter than OEM, about 2Kg lighter than my "big" brembo's (that's per side).

I was a bit disappointed with low speed braking. Its still due to the overall piston size of the CompBrake's being too large for the Octy Master cylinder.

My current tuner (Mark Burley @ MB Motorsport in Devon) uses the same setup on his kit cars, and recons they should be insanely sharp, but the master cylinder in the octy simply cann't power them.

I'm now on the hunt for a larger master cylinder ...

sweedish's brembo GT setup is mucher better suited to the small master cylinder on the octy.

ps The CompBrake kit isn't quite "complete" either; you still need to get braided hoses & some decent 4 DOT brake fluid.

It's also worth checking CompBrake kits over once they arrive, 'cos sometimes they put the wrong size bolts in the kits, or the crush washers for the rotor don't fit.

They're a very friendly folks and send out bags of replacements bolts and washers without quibble.

I would assume the master cylinder on the Leon Cupra R and Audi S3 would be bigger?

Anyone with ETKA who can confim this?

no think they are the same Jamie,

i think the next best idea would be to look at a s4 mc to see if that could be fitted.

Perhaps bigger, but still not big enough I recon !

The overall surface area of the compbrake pistons is larger than anything fitted OEM to the mk.4 platform.

My tuner recons I should start by looking at S4/S6/RS4/RS6 master brake cylinders.

yea but would they fit?
