I'm a convert too.

What swung it for me was when work switched over to McAfee from Norton :D

I use McAfee anti-virus but only cos it was free via work. Also got Microsoft Office free with the reasoning that people can't be at work and at home at the same time so can't be running more than one copy at once. Strange but true.

McAfee looks a good value product and Norton does slow the machine down....but when ever it hits the fan IMO mcAfee couldn't catch a cold. Norton has allways protected I have been using it for years... and I'm sure McAfee is now better just My opinion

I use McAfee AV and firewall. Never had a problem with virus'. Updates automaticly in the background and doesn't seem to slow the computer down.

When I installed McAfee it found stuff on my system that Norton hadn't, and my symantec definitions were up to date!!!!

I have found that McAfee tells you about things that aren't actual viruses but have a signature of a known Virus.

Norton can show you these if you ask it to but it analyses the entire file (not just parts of it like McAfee does) then decides whether it should take action or not.

Can I suggest you guys also get the following FREE softwares and install them

AdAware - www.lavasoft.com (It is free though there are buyable versions with extra bits bolted on)

Spyware search and destroy - Do a google search for it can't remember where got mine.

and

Spyware Blaster - Again do a google.

Once you've installed AdAware post your results on here (I'm always interested in peoples reactions when they discover what sort of crap they have on thier systems that could be sending all sorts of information about them without thier knowledge  )

First time I used AdAware it found 336 items of a dubious nature

I too am a Mcafee convert from Norton. Used Norton and zona alarm for years until recently. PC got a nasty virus that ZA and Norton failed to capture. This resulted in a full system reformat. Put Mcafee on and it found the virus. Not used their firewall suite. Also stopped using ZA and got the fre version of Sygate firewall. This also had a marked effect on NOT slowing my PC down in games etc.

I ran Adaware recently and it found 1115 (yes -1115) suspect items!!! Haven't had a pop up ad since.
