Sticking rear caliper on Roomster

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Can anybody please advise me whether the rear caliper pistons on a 2007 1.4TDI Roomster 2 simply push back in or do they need to be wound back with a tool ?

I did get a copy of the workshop manual on CD but it doesn't run on the laptop (Vista) and I stupidly left it offshore. No doubt it would have loaded ok on the home pc (XP) and I wouldn't need to bother you good folk.

Our little Roomster has been out of action since December and although it gets moved every couple of weeks I'm now seeing a dragging brake on the rear. Car is parked handbrake OFF and wheels chocked. Hopefuly this car will be put back into regular use as soon as No.2 son passes his test and takes over my old Fabia on his own insurance, freeing me to use the Roomy.

Thanks in advance.

you definitely need the windback tool to push the piston back into the caliper (halfords have one, pricey at £25 but cheaper than the labour from a stealer)

i found the rear calipers a bit stick when the pads were over 75% worn, also don't leave it until the last minute to replace the pads or you will have problems getting the tool in to wind the piston back in

Use G clamp. That seems to work on most vehicles, try it before paying out.

Thanks for the input guys.

Did the job this morning (between showers) and everything freed off successfully. Discs and pads still serviceable after 40k miles which is a bonus - current Fabia ate it's discs in about 20k.

The caliper pistons do need the wind-back tool by the way (as advised by bluecar)

Cheers.

yep the tool makes it a 15 minute job per side,

without hmm how much time do you have, i tried for about an hour before admitting defeat and buying the tool
