What does using the Climatronic change in your mpg?

Featured Replies

as above

Because the compressor unit when it is in use, puts an extra load on the engine. I think.

ok, thats obvoius. :)

I mean like minus 10% or something.

No difference on mine that I can see :) But my car is an Octavia...

Like above said, the compressor is driven by the engine so consumes power, therefore fuel, expect the consumption to increase by somewhere in the region of 5-10%

Don't notice any difference, maybe 1MPG or so possibly.

That suprises me. I dont mean climatronic at about 20 degree centigrade temperature outside. I mean 25+ or 30.

The climatronice needs an extra of about 0,5-0,7 l per HOUR. That means if you have an average of 30 km/h and you need 8 litre per 100 km in urban than you will need about 10 litre overall.

On the highway with speed average of 100 km/h and above it means only a third or + 0,6 or so.

The consumption does measure in hours of use and not km or miles. Thats why I am asking.

As stated above there seems to be no noticeable difference no matter what the weather.

This is my third VW group car, and I have never been able to detect any change in my MPG readout on the dash.

I often drive with the AC off as I like having the windows down when in town or going at moderate speeds.

The VW group cars one of the better makes when running on AC certain other makes are very noticeable.

I just got back from spain, and was getting the same 47MPG there with near 40c heat as I do here in the UK where its currently 27c in the southeast.
