Featured Replies

Just been to Northwich to collect a Dining table and chairs that I bought on ebay , and I borrowed a Mercedes Sprinter turbo diesel van to collect it .................very impressed :D , car like performance , and all that room in the back ..........I wish my old 709D went like that ;)

They do indeed :D

Did some work in not-so-sunny Skegness a few years back and had a Sprinter Hire Van...

Just a bit ;)

2 things a sprinter needs: a LSD and better chassis :D

a few years ago i went to collect a brand new sprinter 311 cdi.. had 3 miles on the clock... after driving non-turbo shagged transit vans it was rapid, came to roundabout flying round it... smoking the inside wheel and the chassis flexed so much that the windscreen cracked..

its very common for that to happen

I can understand why they're all driven so fast... diddnt' you find the most comfortable position for your right foot on the motorway was hard on the floor ?? - seriously its uncomfortable to drive at less than 80mph.

Our company van is a Citroen Relay 2.8tD and maxes out at 3800 rpm, but pulls like a train with 128bhp! Tops 100mph, despite the high roof/ LWB body

The sprinters are faster, but a bit small inside. I had one give my old Octy 110TD a good run for it's money once, but I had it in the end :)

Autocar did a group test a couple of months ago on panel vans - I think it was the VW Transporter that came out top.

Modern vans are a bit different from a V4 Transit :)

Only problem is, although a lot of the recent turbo-diesels are indecently rapid, the suspension and brakes are still that of a van

And I'd rather try to slow my Octy down from 115 mph rapidly than I would a Sprinter :D:D

I agree when I moved back from England to N.Ireland I hired a long wheel base Sprinter to carry all my gear. Its performance was better than my 1.3MPI Felicia (which is about equal to a 1.4 Fabia in performance). So yes a great van. Much better than any other type of van I have driven.

Quickest van at the mo is the VW Transporter with the 2.5 lump pushing 174hp, giving 400 Nm and a claimed top speed of 117, 0-6- in 12. A chap I know who has one, says nothing touches it and claims he got it 120-125 on the clock and it still had room to go.

while i was test driving an octy vrs i was overtaken by a sprinter van. he must have been doing about 100mph. i think he thought i was up for a race.
