Necessary equipment

* Diagnostic cable Fast KKL USB or Fast K-COM KKL (available on our website) This program is designated for Motordiag cables!.

* PC with OS Windows 95,98,2000,XP

And I did it with Vista.

Maybe it doesn't work with windows 7?

Or try running it in compatibility mode?

Check list,

Download program - check

Registered it - check

Vag com cable - in post.

By Tuesday I should hopefully have opening and closing windows by fob :). It's something I really need! I keep walking away with my windows open!

How about £9.00 :giggle:

Would the £9.00 cable you linked to work with a 2010 (MY2011) Scout? They claim it will work for a Mark 2 Octavia, but will NOT work for a "Octavia (1Z)" (whatever that might be).

No idea I'm afraid, I think you need a different one (HEX+CAN??)

I think that's referring to the 7th and 8th digits of the car's VIN number (found on a plate in the door pillar on the passenger side).

See http://www.ross-tech.net/VCDS/download/VCDSCompatibilityCharts.pdf

Although page 5 implies that 1Z means all facelifted Octavias - 2004-2011???

Does anyone else have this cable? I bought it the other day, just turned up and I can;t get it to instal! Anyone else have trouble?

I still can't get this to work with a ross-tech cable lol

Ah well :|

Trying it on mine as we speak

I got a cheap ebay cable and using Vista on my sisters laptop. So far it hasn't recognised the cable is plugged into the USB port

Same, but then again Ross tech doesnt recognise it either.

Here is the cable...

VCDSLead.jpg

And I got it to work fine on Vista as does VCDS :dull:

Thats the same cable I've got

I've finally got it to recognise it as COM3

Only now I'm not sure what option to choose (its all in Czech). I tried Aktivate Oken as said earlier in the thread but that has done sweet F.A.

Getting a bit frustrated with it now... too hot to be sitting with a laptop in the car!

Do what I did then... Sit in the car @ 1AM :giggle:

Have you checked the COM setting under Device Manager->Ports etc etc?

I can get it to test interface ok then it does something, but not what its meant to. Something like hovoto !!! comes up and then it throws a message

yeah thats the same thing I'm getting Dave.

it says hovoto! and then I get an error message come up which translated means "controller not discovered" or something like that.

The knock-off version of VAG-Com seems to connect to COM3 port no problems but it's not finding any of the controllers in VAG-Com either.

For some reason it will only connect to COM3 port if in Device Manager I assign the USB serial port to COM1. If I try and assign the USB serial port to COM3 then VAG-Com won't connect to it, it says its already in use.

I think I should have just bit the bullet and bought a kvw100 for £35!!!

Have you turned the ignition to the on position?

And the KVW (if you can find one) totally locks you out of any further changes to the CCM :o

Yeah tried it with the ignition on and off. Going to uninstall the drivers and install the ones off of a website I found instead.

If that doesn't do it I'm giving up for tonight.

i used the same lead as pictured with XP and just let it install whatever drivers the pc thought it needed. then i found which com port it was on the pc (18 on mine!) and hey presto it worked.. did my RS a treat and a few others since too

not sure on vista tho maybe it would need different drivers or something?

  • Author

Nope, it shouldn't need any drivers, I have never used the disc that come with it.

I think the only drivers it loads is the USB->Serial one?

And again, it works fine on Vista for me.

giving up for this evening. The laptop is now not letting me uninstall the drivers etc for the USB serial port so going to call it a night before I throw the thing down the bloody driveway :dull:

This is what I see

vagcom.jpg

Is this what everyone else see's when they are not connected to the car?

Check your settings in Device Manager->Ports(COM&LPT)-> Can't remember the next bit of the top of my head but you should see the USB com port.

Open the properties and see what com port it is set to.

I have 2, Communications port on 1 and USB serial port on 3.
