In Car Dvd

Featured Replies

My neighbour works for Porsche and knows someone who installs these rigs - you know, screens in the headrests, etc.

Well, I want that for the kids. Driving to Germany in 3 weeks, and closest family is a 2 hour drive away at best so it is, IMO, a worthwhile investment.

What ballpark figures d'you think I'll be looking at? I'm figuring in the region of 1000 - 1500? Or am I massively underestimating?

Will have to be a multi-region setup. How do these things usually work? Are we talking head unit replacement?

Anyone here had this sort of thing done? Any tips? Any mistakes I could learn from? Is there an official Skoda item?

Questions, questions... :)

TIA.

Mark

I've looked into this quite a bit, but haven't installed anything yet.

Car DVD players are almost all multi-region, so thats not so much of an issue. And you can get them either as a headunit (with or without TFT screen), standalone (like your home dvd player, just smaller and on 12V) or as a DVD changer (expensive). The standalone players are usually the cheapest, and they (more often than not) end up underneath the passengers seat.

The screens are also available in a few different forms: standalone, as part of the headunit, as headrest units, as sunvisors or as roof-console.

Just a quick search on ebay (which might not be the cheapest) shows that you can already buy a complete setup (2 headrests and dvd player) for

A guy I know does that kind of thing. He recently quoted to fit into a Jeep Grand Cherokee the following:-

2 Headrest Monitors,

DVD Player under seat,

PS2 under seat,

2 Wireless Headphones

All FM Modulators and wiring etc

I thought about the all-in-one systems in a bag, but I want less clutter and something I wont have to worry about at service stations.

Thanks a lot for the input fellas. I'm so impressed with this forum :)

i know its a bit sad but look in this months max power... one of their staff has just put loads of screens in to an Octavia - might give you some inspiration?

Probably not quite what is required, but I see that

Well, having been quoted from 1500 to 2100 for built in 2 screen systems the wife and I put our sensible hats on.

Although not quite the bargain of that Centurion system, I just bought one of those VEBA hang on the seat systems. Multi-region, 7" 16:9 screen with various mounting solutions, 2x headphones, input for console etc, adapter for use in the home, all in a reasonably compact bag. Managed to get
