I wondered if anyone on here has had a similar problem and can confirm a solution.

I have a 1998 Octavia Estate 1.9 TDi and all of a sudden I noticed the luggage compartments light were on at all the time (Even when locked up and keys out etc)

At the same time the tailgate door lock started playing up, it will unlock the central locking without problem but when locking the key is stiff to operate and it only locks the tailgate. (ie it does not fire the central locking).

To save my battery I have disconnected the internal bulbs from the tailgate until I can fix the issue.

I have stripped the tailgate down and I have the reference from the actuator (3B0959781)

Does anybody know if replacing this will fix any or both of my problems?

I think there is a microswitch in the lock - I would check that still works, and that the connections to it are good.
