Rear Fog Light/S

Featured Replies

My reading of it is that the BCM only allows ONE light to be lit, and that is set by the dealer when he sets the country status.

have fabia 2001 and have just come across this issue of rear fog lights -

2 bulbs are fitted on both sides for fogs - them being P21/4 fog and tail - one grey wire feeds the offside fog but nothing for the opposite hand the

fog terminal is not connected - so would not be able to switch on or off - although on newer models you maybe lucky and have that option - the only way

as i see it is connect it up from the live side - for those who are more technicaly minded is this possible without blowing any relays or fuses -

On the mk2 Octavia it was a simple vag-com procedure to enable both fog lights.

I never got round to having it changed, but many people did.

In nearly 40,000 miles of driving I needed the rear fog lights on less than the fingers on one hand and never the fronts.

I quite agree, I rarely have needed fogs on the public road, but I'm using ny SM in motorsport and could do with both rear fogs being illuminated at the same time when acting as safety car (with 20 or so competitors cars behind me!).

For now, I've added a couple of stand alone rear fog lights to my light bar on the roof, so I may end up leaving things like that.

A late update

Our dealer offered to programme to nearside if travelling abroad (62 plate)

Having dismantled the units yesterday, it was eventually plain that the dealership would not be able to offer that service

Whilst nearside does get dispatched with a bulb in place, there was NO wire provided in the loom for that to happen

Having dismantled the boot and run wire from a splice via a 3 Amp blade fuse between both lights, I can say this

The CAN bus turns off the fog light due to the amperage drawn.

So stymied.

One consideration is to explore is the 12v power socket in the boot, hooked into a relay, to provide the lamp power.

why not use a 2 way switch mounted in the boot to just switch between the 2 sides, i have a uk car here a la frog and use the facility to enable offside light each side of the channel, i also had to wire across! Cost £5 max!

Are the standard fit filament lamps? How about trying a couple of LED lamps instead, along with a suitable resistor for load?

Normally, the lack of load from LED lamps is a problem when using them to replace 'normal' ones, but in this case it may be a godsend.

Er, why?

It is perfectly legal to have the one fog light illuminated whilst your car is temporarily abroad.
