Melted bumper

Featured Replies

rite then i had a full stainless fitted bout 3 weeks ago and well its melted and cracked me back bumper! the mid box was cut out for a sportier note but the silencer kept the same shape (bent downwards behind the bumper) can anyone give me some reason as to why its got this hot and how to solve/what to do?

i do recon there was a tiny crack to start with which has split

All exhausts get hot at the end of the tailpipe, if your new exhaust has a larger opening and sits closer to the bumper then this heat will be closer to the bumper and cause it to melt. This is why you see cars with larger exhausts that sit close to the bumper with a silver heat shield protection stuck to the bumper. Think MG ZR, ZS and others.

the hole is smaller but may sit bout 3mm closer, and its angled down however i do recon ther may haad been a tiny crack in the bumper before

On my MG ZR i put a heatshield on it. Well worth it. Although when i got a duplex exhaust i didnt get one done on the other side! Could possibly be a group buy on heatsheilds that could be sorted out?

I am a design engineer for a company that designs and provides heatshields (hard and soft) and exhausts for the automotive industry. We design shields for anything on a engine / exhaust so I might be able to help. The project im working on at the mo is the new subaru cosworth :p and have experience on pretty much everything with an engine!

is it a possibility that you could make me one and ill be the test dummy etc? What would happen with attaching them etc?

this is what was on my MG!

Personally I really like the rounded shape that flows along the bottom of the bumper and up over the exhaust (hope that makes sense). I think it would be best to design something that doesnt hide that too much.
