petrol steering column into a diesel? Straight swap?

Featured Replies

Ive got the steering column from my 1.3 petrol parts car which I plaan to pu tinto my diesel pickup, are these wired the same, a straight swap?? didnt really think about it at the time, but there is obviously glowplug wiring needed on the diesel. Is it gonna be a case of bolting it in and plugging the wires in (and immobiliser ring from the petrol car) or are they wired differently?? Just thoughtt I'd ask you lot before (possibly!) running into problems.

Thanks

as long as both are power steering or non power steering as thats the only differance that will stop it physically fitting, ie you cant fit a non power steering column to a power rack. also some differances in the length of them at the wheel end as the older non airbag ones are 2 inches longer than the airbag ones. wiring is the same on both but i would try to keep the transponder ring with the same car it is fitted to as the petrol and diesel immob boxes are different..

edit.. you are going to either have to swap the keybarrell over to keep the pickup key in use or.... open up the key and swap the immob chips over, they are sometimes glued in but thinners will melt the glue and not harm the chip i have done lots like that

^^ yeah it will fit so long as it's from a power steering model, the U/J on the bottom of the column has a different spline on the non-pas models...

re: lock barrel, it's far easy to remove the entire steering lock mechanism from the existing comlumn rather than just the lock barrel on it's own, you will need to drill out the sheer bolts to do it though. the new sheer bolts are about £5 from the dealer for the set of 3, but if you are just swapping the entire steering lock with the barrel still attached you only need 2 of them
