New Owner - A Few Q's

Featured Replies

Hi,

So I got my first car last weekend, a 2000 W reg bright red fabia and I'm loving it!

However I've noticed a few problems, I'm going to see the guy I got it from in a few weeks and he's promised to fix most of the issues (he's a mechanic who sells on cars) as well as pt it through it's MOT (only got 2 months left and a full MOT was part of the deal), but wanted a bit of feedback on what the issues may be.

I've noticed a knocking on the front passenger side wheel/sus - It seems to only be when cornering or going over a bump. I've been advised that this could be a stabiliser bar on the wheel knocking...

Car judders when accelerating/pulling of gas. I was testing this some more today, i get a delayed judder about 1-2 seconds after coming off the throttle. Also when accelerating, unless I do this really smoothly I get the same problem. A friend mentioned that this could be a transmission problem and/or injectors or even possibly something loose taking up some slack.

Clutch feels like it needs adjusting - not much play on the clutch, feels all on or off, making it very hard for me (a new driver) to get smooth gear changes - I didn't have this problem in any of the previous cars i've driven (new focus, mini, clio and punto).

Squeaking on rear wheels/sus - I only noticed this after having a few passengers in the back, now i get squeaks when going over bumps.

I know the transmission/clutch problems are in part due to my inexperience as a driver, but if anyone has had similar issues i'd love to hear back if anyone has had any similar problems...

Thanks

Lou

Think the clutch is self adjusting and hydrolic, so it's stuck as it is. All the knocking/ lurching is most likely the front wishbone/console bushes. When mine failed the car lurched on/off power and when changing gears, and made a knocking noise on bumps, and on/off power. The lurching still happened slightly after chaning the bushes, and it does still in my current car, I'm assuming it's a bit of slack in the engine mounts. Rear suspension, just try spraying it with a lubricant of some sort, fixed mine for a few weeks when it creaked.

I wonder if a brake and clutch fluid (one and the same thing) change would make the clutch feel slightly better. If it hasn't been done in over 2 years or is looking dark coloured in the brake fluid reservoir it's worth changing anyway. I agree the clutch gives very little in the way of feedback compared to some other cars, but it's just a case of getting used to it.

Cheers for the info guys, I had a feeling it may be something to do with bushes from what I've read online, just looking into powerflex & cupra bushes, no idea whether I need them though, what do I know, I'm new to this!

Im going to get it checked out soon, so lets hope it's not something more major...

my car does the judder thing i reckon it could be somethin to do with the injectors too. its not too bad at the moment. gets better when its warm
