Reverse Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

Ok, Having had someone run into the back of my 08 Vrs this morning and damaging my rear bumper. Is it worth fitting a bumper with parking sensors etc. I realise I would have to get various modules but was just wondering whether it was worth the effort? However it would be an insurance job so presumably I would just pay the difference? Thoughts anyone?

Well personally i am presently driving a Fiat Stilo estate without rear sensors , but my previous BMW 318 had em, I like them sooooo much have ordered them to be on my brand new vRS, when it finally gets here. :smirk:

I have them on my current car and will always spec them on any car that I order from now on.

However, I don't know how simple it would be to retro fit a full system but my Mrs' car has the number plate surround thingamigigy on and, for the money, about £90 iirc, they are well worth it.

Skoda do a retrofit kit. It doesnt connect up to the screen on the dashboard but still does the job perfectly well. I would definitely have them fitted on any of my cars now.

They are the best thing ever in modern cars, where visibility is usually crap, and if they stop just one reversing accident (highly likely) then they've paid for themselves

BUT

how would they have stopped someone reversing into you?

That would be cool. Parking sensors talking to other cars. So yours would say. "Whatch it mister you are about to crash in to me" to the other car

Skoda do a very good kit - I had it fitted to mine - it doesn't give the dash display but I find it a great help manoeuvring in tight spaces - you could always investigate the retro fit parking cameras now available too - tempting in theory but I am not sure about the image overlay in the rear view mirror - google them to see what I mean :-)

If you scout around on ebay there are people that sell the actual Skoda kit, howeve rI dont know of anyone thats fitted it, there is some sort of interface that goes into your Bolero attached so you get the display on screen too.

I was thinking of going down this route as Skoda say that just a beep one will cost me about £250. Id probably be a wuss and get the above professionally fitted though as I dont fancy drilling my bumper.....

I fitted a 'colour coded' 4-sensor kit bought off Ebay for £18. Its the 'beep' type and works a treat. Didn't take long to fit (a leisurely 2 hours) - I didn't even have to remove the bumper, I just reach up behind. Cables guided though the large grommet behind the spare wheel and the small control box and buzzer mounted in the rear wing near the CD changer. My wife's Fabia II has the factory reversing sensors and this kit works just as well. Can't fault it so far, its been 100% reliable. The silver finish is a perfect match to my silver Octavia.

I got one of these too, not sure if its exactly the same kit but the beep is a little cheap sounding and they do take a little longer to first react than o.e kit but other wise spot on.

We fit the skoda acsesory kit version and they are a dodle to do, we do remove the bumper cos its marked on the back of the bumper were you drill, The wiring is a piece of cake to sort out as well, the genuine skoda acsesory kit when fitted needs setting up and you have to reverse the car up to a wall untill you get a gap of 50cms and then you cut a wire and thats then set, But they are good for a none factory fit.
